A good milestone for our apprentice, successfully completing both his Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry and. Woodchipper Operations qualifications.
It’s easy to forget that none of us start out knowing this job. Every skill has to be learned, every qualification earned and every bit of experience gained.
Having started in the industry over 30 years ago myself, it’s rewarding to see someone at the beginning of that journey and developing the skills needed to work safely and professionally.
Congratulations on passing both courses. On to the next challenge.

A few photographs from a job in Brotton.
These trees were showing significant dieback and required removal by climbing.
Tree work often looks straightforward once the saw starts, but every climbing operation begins with planning. The condition of the tree, potential defects, surrounding targets and emergency planning all need to be considered before anyone leaves the ground.
Once a clear plan is in place, the work can be carried out methodically and safely.
A fairly routine job for us, but a good example of how preparation, experience and sound decision-making underpin safe tree work.

Zero-impact rigging removal of a heavily decayed pine.
A remote rigging point was installed in an adjacent tree to avoid shock-loading the compromised stem during dismantling.
Technical rigging and careful load management are essential when dealing with structurally weakened trees.

Some pics of a big Lime tree removal in Loftus. We have done some minor works to this tree over the years, however it has succumbed to Pytopthera and over 50% of the crown had died. The remaining stem will be carved by a talented local carver - we will share the images when it’s completed
It produced 18 cubic meters of chip and about 8 t of timber - quite a size !
