Here’s an example of a general garden tidy-up we recently completed for a client who had just moved into their new property. Over the years the garden had become a little bit of a jungle, making it difficult to see its true potential.

Our goal was to open up the space by carefully managing the trees, redefining the hedges, and clearing overgrown vegetation, all while retaining as much of the original garden character as possible.

Here’s a recent willow tree removal we carried out after the tree outgrew its space and started damaging a retaining wall and lifting parts of the driveway.

Here’s a great example of a 2m selective crown reduction, crown lift and crown clean carried out on this mature lime tree, all completed under TPO restrictions.

The aim with this work was to carefully reduce the overall size while maintaining the tree’s natural shape, alongside lifting the canopy and removing dead and congested growth. This has created a lighter, more open crown, improving both aesthetics and allowing more natural light through the area.

All works were carried out in line with approved specifications and to British Standards, ensuring the long-term health and integrity of the tree are maintained.

Here’s a great example of two reductions we’ve carried out recently 🌳

Both trees had become slightly overextended, so we reduced the crown spread and brought everything back into a more balanced, manageable shape. Alongside the reductions, we carried out full crown cleans—removing epicormic growth and deadwood to open the canopy up and improve overall tree health and structure.

We also removed the basal ivy from both trees. This will naturally kill off the remaining ivy, making it far easier to manage and remove in the future without causing unnecessary stress to the tree.

A cleaner, safer and more aesthetically pleasing finish all round—done the JEC way.

On this job, we were tasked with the removal of several large conifers following a number of failures over the past couple of years. Due to their close proximity to an industrial estate car park, safety was the top priority throughout.

To carry out the works efficiently and with minimal disruption, we utilised a grapple saw. This allowed us to dismantle the trees in a controlled manner, keeping both the surrounding area and the public safe at all times.

Alongside the removals, we also cleared back surrounding vegetation to improve access, visibility, and overall site presentation.

Another job completed safely, efficiently, and with the right approach — the JEC way.

Here’s a look at a recent job tackling a large crack willow growing right over the water in a very tight working area. With limited access and a long drag for the timber and brash, this one definitely kept the team busy.

Situations like this are where experience, planning, and the right equipment make all the difference. With the right team on the ground and in the tree, we were able to dismantle the willow safely and efficiently while protecting the surrounding area.

🌳 Selective Crown Reduction – Creating Space & Balance 🌳

Here’s a great example of a 2–3 metre selective crown reduction carried out by the team at JEC Tree Services Ltd.

The aim of this work was to lighten the canopy, improve the overall balance of the tree, and pull the crown away from the property. By selectively reducing the outer extremities of the canopy, we were able to reduce weight on extended limbs while maintaining the tree’s natural shape and long-term health.

Careful pruning like this not only improves safety and clearance from buildings, but also helps the tree remain structurally stable and aesthetically pleasing for years to come.

All work carried out safely and in line with British Standards (BS3998) — the JEC way.

Returning to care for a magnificent cedar at The Roe Deer Pub 🌲

This week we had the privilege of returning to The Roe Deer Pub to carry out further work on one of the most impressive and mature cedar trees we’ve worked on.

A couple of years ago, we completed an extensive crown clean on this tree, carefully removing deadwood and reducing excess weight, which resulted in over three full van loads of wood chip. This initial work was essential in improving the tree’s health and reducing the risk of failure.

On this visit, we carried out a targeted weight reduction, removing a further full van load of material. The goal was clear — to reduce stress on the heavier lateral limbs while preserving the tree’s natural shape, character, and presence within the landscape.

Working on trees of this age and stature requires a careful balance between safety and preservation. By selectively reducing weight and maintaining structural integrity, we can help ensure this magnificent cedar remains safe and continues to thrive for many years to come.
