—— Giant Sword Fern | Nephrolepis biserrata 'Macho'

One of the most impressive fern species you can find, meet the magnificent Sword Fern! Gorgeously shiny fronds begin life upright (perfectly positioned for you to watch them unfurl) then arch gracefully downwards as they age.

For a plant with this much foliage they are relatively easy to care for. Make sure they have bright but not direct sunlight (they’d grow on the canopy floor in the wild). Keep them hydrated but not soaking (check the soil once a week and when the top inch is dry give it a good drink). This fern loves humidity making it perfect for your bathroom or kitchen where’s there’s a little more natural humidity than the rest of the house.

Hang or sit on a shelf and voila, instant jungle vibes!

—— Bambino Fiddle Leaf Fig | Ficus Lyrata

With huge, glossy green leaves the Fiddle Leaf Fig is one of the most striking and desirable houseplants to have in your home. Given the perfect spot they can grow up to 6ft tall trees, with giant leaves to match! For those short on space though we have these Bambino versions available online now.

Although finicky at times they can thrive and grow fairly quickly with the proper care / conditions. Warmth, humidity, lots of bright light and water are a must for a happy fig.

PLANT REFRESH 🪴🏄 ☕️ —— We’ve just had a mini spruce up over in .surf ahead of the summer season. Here’s what you need to know:

🌿 All our plants are now individually labelled + priced making it easier to choose the perfect plant for you.

🌿 Although all our plants are potted you can always buy them without the pot.

🌿 We will be replenishing all our plants in Open every Friday throughout the summer.

🌿 This helps us keep our plants as fresh and varied as possible (so Fridays are a great day to visit)!

🌿 Order on our website by midday Friday for collection from Open over the weekend.

🌿All online orders are wrapped in brown paper and will be waiting for you at the bar, just ask when you arrive.

🌿 If there’s something you’d like but can’t see please drop me a message and I’ll do my best to get it in for you!

—— Chinese Money plant | Pilea peperomoides

Maybe it’s its pleasing rounded leaves. Or the fact that it’s one of the easiest houseplants to care for. Or that it produces so many babies (it’s the mother of all plants for propagating). Or maybe it’s the intrinsic good fortune this plant holds. Whatever it is the Chinese Money plant is a must for every home/space.

Separate out the baby plants and pop into a new pot to gift to a friend, neighbour, teacher or loved one.

—— Bird of Paradise | Strelitzia nicolai

The only leafy plant we’d recommend for that sunny spot in your home. Huge banana shaped leaves arch up and out, bringing a tropical feel to any space they’re in.

In the wild Bird of Paradise produce unusual blooms (similar to the tropical birds of Papa New Guinea), however they are very unlikely to flower as houseplants here in our English homes.

Loves bright light so perfect for that conservatory or window spot. Water when top inch of soil feels dry. Overall a very low maintenance, quick growing, sun worshipping leafy plant for your home.

NEW NEW NEW PLANT DROP 🌵—— Now live on the website. We have some beautiful pink philodendrons and calatheas as well as the most stunningly structural cacti.

Sign up to our emails on the website to access the drop a week before we release it into the wild! All deliveries via DPD will be shipped Monday to avoid the plants sitting in a warm, dark box all weekend. If your local select to pick up from Open over the weekend (and grab a coffee / check out the boards whilst you’re at it).

—— ZigZag or Fishbone Cactus / Disocactus anguliger

A crazy looking, semi succulent plant this Zig Zag cactus would look incredible hanging in a bathroom!

Reasonably fast growing in the summer months, young leaves grow upwards on this cacti then fall down as they age, giving any space a real jungle feel.

Loves reasonably high humidity and bright light, keep it watered slightly more than other cacti (check it once every 2 weeks).

—— Baby’s Necklace / Crassula marnieriana

A striking, easy to care for succulent that grows tiny puffy little leaves (or beads) along its stems, a perfect plant for beginners.

It will love a bright sunny spot but be careful not to scorch it (not too tricky in this country)! Resistant to the occasional drought, make sure to water it when the soil is dry to the touch and do not water it again until it has completely drained through.

In stock —— Velvet Anthurium / Anthurium clarinervium.

A rare and exquisite plant, deserving of a spot in every houseplant lovers collection.

Likes bright (not direct) light and regular misting or a steamy bathroom! It also enjoys a thorough watering; however it does need to be left to dry out in between waterings.

Taking five in my very own jungle this morning —— 🌱☕️
surf serving up the best coffee and cakes as usual, the sun is shining outside, shaping is happening in the bay and wigs are being trimmed by Aaron. All alongside our beautiful houseplants. Pop in and say hello, we’re here until 4pm today and tomorrow.
