Project Update

Our commission is to design for the reconfiguration of the existing property to create a partially open layout for the kitchen and dining area in a lovely Victorian terrace, that has the typical off-shot kitchen layout. The scheme also incorporates an enhancement to the loft to deliver additional space via a dormer window to enlarge the bedroom and add an ensuite. Together with this, we are also redesigning and thermally upgrading the existing bathroom.

Situated within a conservation area, the proposals required careful consideration and approval from the local authority, and close work with our client to develop the interior design.

We are delighted to work with a local Development Trust, who support the community to develop enterprising solutions that bring about positive economic and social change.

As part of our work, we are aiming to unlock the full potential of this mixed-use property in Sheffield with a shopfront and internal redesign and refurbishment.

By reconfiguring the internal layout and modernising the frontage, we’ll be creating a new commercial unit at ground level with office space above. From guiding the planning process to delivering the technical design, and managing the build, we’ll be overseeing the project from start to finish. ✍️

Progress is coming along at this historic site in Nottinghamshire.

Soon to be clad with Corten steel, we’re excited to be Project Managing the visitor centre for the grade II* listed Bennerley Viaduct. Constructed in the late 19th century as a railway to transport wrought iron, the viaduct spans the Erewash valley, between Awsworth in Nottinghamshire, and Ilkeston in Derbyshire.

As one of the few surviving wrought iron railway viaducts in the UK, it is now considered an important piece of Victorian engineering heritage. Though disused for many decades after the railway closed in the 1960s, it was never demolished. It is now seeing some fresh rejuvenation, being opened to the public as a walking and cycle track - with the new visitor centre set to become a café and welcoming hub for people to explore this remarkable piece of industrial history.

Survey for a new shop front design today. Came away feeling spoilt. Can honestly say that was some of the best Indian cuisine I have tasted. Unexpected and very grateful as we were starving!

Happy to report that we have been commissioned for our latest retrofit!

This old farmhouse - constructed in the late 1700s - is Grade II listed and will require skill and care to achieve significant thermal upgrades while protecting and conserving the fabric of the building.

Unloved at present, we will be creating a sympathetic scheme suitable for modern living.

Look out for our updates as the project progresses through thermal modelling, planning and listed building consent.

We will be presenting before and after energy modelling to demonstrate predicted energy savings to convey the value of retrofit.

Design development is well underway following our recent inspection of the demolition works at this enormous West Yorkshire barn conversion.

The proposals aim to retain original character features and take advantage of the expansive southwestern aspect, while incorporating oak-framed living spaces and an extensive scheme of landscaping, including a courtyard patio perfectly placed to take in the sunset!

We’re currently in the process of developing this extension and retrofit project, near Sheffield’s Norfolk Park. Alongside plans for a sustainably designed rear extension, we are producing a detailed retrofit strategy in response to the client’s requirement to improve their home’s thermal efficiency.

As climate change worsens, retrofitting our homes will become crucial not only for the environment, but also as a way of improving the comfort of your home. This can be an expensive process, but a well-developed retrofit plan allows you to phase the process and spread the cost – plus, a more thermally efficient home can lead to a significant reduction in the cost of heating / electricity bills.

Throwback Thursday! And today we are taking it back to one of our projects on Manchester Road.

Comprised of a ground floor reconfiguration and rear extension, the brief was to create a contemporary kitchen-diner space with an open layout and lots of natural light.

The dining room has been created on a lower level to the new kitchen and leads out to an elevated sun terrace to the rear of the Victorian property. Natural light has been utilised in the area with skylights making the area feel all the more spacious.

Another project in progress today: A contemporary single-storey extension and conversion near Nether Edge.

The client’s brief involves extending over the garage to create a modernised master bedroom with en-suite and adjoining study, as well as converting the garage to habitable space, and extending to the rear with a garden room.

Working on this one has been great from the get go and we can’t wait to see it come to life!
