π£π¦ NESTING SEASON EXPLAINED π¦π£
As we are now offically in the nesting season for the UK here's a brief understanding of what this means.
Firstly, it is NOT illegal to cut hedges, trees, shrubs or any other vegatation during the nesting season. What is illegal is to knowingly disturb ANY nesting wildlife. This includes a nest that is in the process of been built, has eggs in it or has chicks/young present.
It isn't just birds that are protected under this law either, other species including hedgehogs, newts, bats, badgers plus more are covered π¦π¦πΈπ
Nesting season in the UK is considered most active between the months March - September but nests can be found before & after this time frame so its important to know the difference between an active and a unused nest (as well as the different types for different animals!)
Knowingly disturbing nests can result in massive fines, criminal prosecution and even potential imprisonment. So, No, we won't " just get rid of it" as its not worth the risk and it's a living thing in its natural environment!
(I'm sure your work can wait a few weeks until the chick's have fledged)
Thorough checks should be done before undertaking any work including 'watch before touch' inspections, visually looking through vegetation WITHOUT shaking, poking or moving it and a general check for signs of an active nest been present π³
So work is fine to go ahead but serious thought and consideration for potential nests must be took into account before hand and work MUST stop if an active nest is encountered.
