Sunday call out to help a customer in Nether Edge , after their door had failed in the locked position and trapped them inside.
The locking mechanism had failed, so even with the correct key, it simply refused to budge.
We opened the door quickly and non destructively, stripped the old mechanism out of the door (date stamped 1994 so over 30 years old!), and installed a shiny new gearbox, handles with new springs, and upgraded the cylinder to a 1* anti snap lock.

Today’s challenge……. Replace loose original antique brass handles with a suitably aged pair to complement the period furniture on the outer front door.
This loose and wobbly set of rim handles had been driving our customer in Endcliffe mad for the last few months, with the inner handle falling off every time they tried to open and close their door.
It was a bit of a mission trying to source a pair that not only looked aged and unlacquered, but that also securely fixed to the door to prevent the same issue happening in the future.
Due to the weight of these solid brass unsprung handles, we recommended fitting them in conjunction with a heavy duty double sprung tubular latch.

Always great to see a lock that’s almost as old as me! 😁😁🔑🔑🔑🔑
This is the original one from when the door was fitted in the late 1970’s and finally failed this week after years of great service.
They don’t make them like they used to, but hopefully they’ll get at least 20 years out of the new one! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Police approved Supra keysafe installed in Ranmoor to replace a cheaper version that was already fitted to the wall, but the customer had no code.
It’s always best to hide a keysafe out of sight, but if it needs to be visibly fitted by a door, then we always recommend having a police approved one, which offers much more resistance to a forced attack than the cheap models that seem to be sold almost anywhere nowadays.

Worn out and faulty code locks replaced for a nursery school in Nether Edge .
They called us to help after their existing ones intermittently failed and jammed.
The market has been flooded over the years with cheaper copies of this style of mechanical lock, but for areas of high traffic such as these doors, we only really recommend fitting genuine Lockey products.
Made in Japan and solidly built, they outlast the cheap versions ten times over, and perform reliably and securely every time the code is entered.
