WARNING! Please take note in this nesting season. It is ilegal to move or destroy an active birds' nest. All birds their nests and eggs are protected by law: the Wildlife & Countryside Act of 1981. This makes it an offence, with certain exceptions, to deliberately take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built. It is also illegal to take or destroy the egg of any wild bird. This means you cannot sweep or fit a bird guard on a chimney that has Jack doors or any nesting bird in it.
The maximum penalty that can be imposed for an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act - in respect of a single bird, nest or egg - is a fine of up to £5,000, and/or six months imprisonment.
I've seen lots of posts lately of sweeps advertising birds nest removal, they are doing so illegally with the home owner being potentially liable for any enforcement, so please be aware and use a recommended sweep.
Stay safe everyone!

Just wanted to put your minds at ease with the developing government announcements and guidelines. We are a very small family business here with twin baby girls who are our lives, we are already social distancing to keep us all safe as well as our clients, when we arrive at your home we always cover everything in plastic and wear protective masks and gloves as our work involves lots of nasty soot and dust, this means we've pretty much been following government guidelines for the past 17 years! We always recommend clients leave us to it, and although we appreciate the teas and biscuits we are offered please don't feel obliged to feed and water us, we literally don't stop and if it saves any potential spread of germs then we are very happy to just crack on.
We generally talk you through the install and operation of the appliance at the end but if you prefer us to send you these details instead we have added this to our invoices for you to read and refer back to. Our showroom is currently closed but we are very happy to send images and specs of all the stoves we do and can very easily quote from photos.
If any of our existing or upcoming clients have any concerns or queries then please don't hesitate to get in contact.
Stay safe everyone and let's keep this country moving!
Big thanks to all the emergency services, truck drivers, and key workers who support us and risk exposure everyday.

Happy New Year from all of us at Focalflames Fireplaces! Thank you ever so much for your continued support and custom, without all your recommendations and reviews we certainly wouldn't be here today! Each year we try to improve our services and workmanship by investing as much as we can not only back into the business but also into the local community, sponsoring the contenders darts team, Sherborne football club and the festival of dogs show right here in Shepton Mallet. This year we've now got our new showroom up and running as well as our 12m cherry picker for the more tricky installations, saving clients the expense of scaffolding, plus our new slate cutter to give you the best finish possible on our own supplied hearths. The more money we can save on supplying materials and producing our own products the more money our clients can save! Remember with over 15 years personally installing, professionals don't have to cost the earth! Happy New Year everyone.
