A call out this morning to make safe this fallen Oak limb. Caused by a phenomenon known as 'Summer branch drop' where a seemingly healthy branch can shed without any warning in good weather. One theory is the limb may be damaged/weakened in winter storms and when combined with the weight of new leaf growth in summer and a sudden heavy downpour the weight will then exceed the limbs structural limits and it will drop. Another theory is drought may effect the structure of the timber by shrinking and cracking the fibers as it also has a tendency to happen on a hot dry day with no wind or rain!
