Planning permission granted in Shrewsbury Conservation Area
A smaller project this time, but one that’s going to make a really big difference to our client.
Our client loves being in the garden, it’s her happy place, but her tiny garden in Castlefields is currently more yard than garden, with an outbuilding and shed taking up much of the available space and very little privacy.
The plan is to remove the outbuilding and make the whole garden work much harder. A contemporary aluminium pergola will create a covered outdoor living area, with the warmth of timber slatted fencing, increased privacy and plenty of planting to soften everything.
By treating the house, boundaries, pergola, paving and planting as one cohesive space, the garden should feel much bigger, greener and more inviting.
Although it’s a relatively modest project, because the property sits within the Shrewsbury Conservation Area, the works also need planning permission, which we’ve just received.
The design has been carefully considered to sit sympathetically with the existing house, including reusing bricks from the demolished outbuilding, and Shropshire Council’s Conservation Team raised no heritage objection.
It’s a lovely example of how good design isn’t always about adding more space. Sometimes it’s about completely changing how the space you already have feels and works.
For our garden-loving client, this little yard will become a private, green and sheltered sanctuary where she can properly enjoy being outside.
I think this one is going to be rather lovely.
