When purchasing trees, it can be difficult to ensure you are getting a quality product. Here are 5 things to look out for when buying new trees for your garden areas:

1. **Healthy Roots:** Check that the roots are not circling the pot or tightly bound. They should be firm and white, indicating healthy growth.
2. **Strong Trunk:** Look for a straight, sturdy trunk with no cracks or damage. A well-formed trunk is crucial for the tree's long-term stability.
3. **Vibrant Leaves:** The leaves should be vibrant and free from pests, diseases, or discoloration. Healthy foliage is a sign of a well-nourished tree.
4. **Branch Structure:** Ensure the tree has a balanced and even branch structure. Avoid trees with large, low branches that could interfere with growth.
5. **No Root Flare:** The base of the tree where the trunk meets the roots should be visible and slightly above the soil level. This indicates the tree has been planted at the correct depth.

By paying attention to these details, you can ensure you're selecting a healthy tree that will thrive in your garden. Happy planting! ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฟ

I found this poster the other day, take a look at this informative guide on "How to Kill a Tree" โ€“ an educational reminder of the common mistakes people make that can harm or even kill their trees. From improper pruning and planting too close to structures, to damaging roots and over-irrigating, these harmful practices are best avoided and something we see far to often.
For healthy, thriving trees, it's crucial to understand and prevent these errors. Always consider consulting a certified arborist for advanced tree care. Let's keep our trees strong and healthy! ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ’š

We did some milling a few days ago, this is an old cherry tree which had begun to die and needed to be removed due to the health and safety risk. The color in the heartwood is due to the tree's natural aging process and the unique characteristics of cherry wood. Over time, cherry wood develops rich, warm hues ranging from pinkish to deep reddish-brown, creating beautifully colored boards. This natural patina only enhances the wood's beauty and is highly sought after for woodworking projects. We're excited to see how these boards will transform in future projects!

We recently completed the removal of a large oak tree that had unfortunately split in half, causing significant damage to the client's greenhouse and impacting their home. The split and decay at the base of the tree made the remaining structure extremely unstable.

To ensure safety, we brought in a MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) to assist with the removal. The entire process took about a week due to the tree's size, and we estimate that we removed over 25 tons of timber.

Safety and thoroughness are our top priorities, and we're glad we could help restore safety to our client's property.

๐Ÿ’” Sadly, we recently had to bid farewell to not just one, but four magnificent Scots Pine trees that had to be removed. Their demise was a heartbreaking result of the severe drought we experienced in 2022. ๐Ÿ˜ข Regrettably, as summers continue to heat up, more of these beloved trees may succumb to the impacts of our changing climate. But fear not, there are ways we can protect these trees! ๐ŸŒฟโœจ One effective method is to avoid cutting grass around the root plate, allowing vegetation to grow and provide shade and moisture retention. Another approach is to provide wood mulch around the base of the tree, aiding in water retention during those scorching months. Let's join forces and make a positive impact by implementing these practices! ๐Ÿ’š Together, we can and take meaningful . ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ’ช
