Well it’s grey and muddy around my garden in February, but there are signs of spring, with bulbs beginning to push up through the cold soil and hellebores trying to add a little colour. Iris unguiculares are an unexpected blue, the dead sedum heads add a bit of soggy structure but need to be cut back to allow for the fresh new growth that will come soon, and the Euphorbia characias has lime-green flower buds about to turn their heads to some spring sunshine - there is hope at last!

Autumn in my developing garden at Home Farm in Wiltshire is a colourful event. There’s still lots to do in this walled half-acre that was completely derelict just two years ago. The soil is chalky and alkaline, but with the addition of home-made compost, is becoming full of worms and other wildlife (a sign of healthy, nutritious soil). If you need help with your garden, whatever the size, get in touch - I’d love to help.
