Another stunning kitchen transformation….of sorts. This client didn’t want any changes to the layout of their kitchen, but really didn’t like the units and tiles. They wanted the flooring, which previously was a continuation of the laminate from the lounge, to be more suitable for a kitchen and also define & separate the space.
Now with sleek handleless doors, compact laminate 12mm worktops & upstands, an undermounted sink and LVT flooring the whole space feels much bigger, brighter and much more modern. Just waiting on a made-to-measure splashback to finish off the look alongside the new hob and extractor.

I’m not sure if this is a bathroom renovation or a bedroom renovation?

Converting a bedroom in to a bathroom can be done. The two big questions - Can we get water in? Can we get water out? Usually the answer to both is…Yes.

What an amazing transformation too. Utilising the large window to bring in loads of light and warmth, combining that with large-format, warm tiles and adding black features throughout creates a bright, stylish, modern bathroom.

Concealing the cistern is not only visually more appealing but also creates a useful shelf for toiletries and decor.
Floor level trays are the only way - even if it does mean channelling out concrete and drilling through walls for waste pipes.
A simple flipper panel on the shower means no more sliding doors, no more runners and wheels to gather limescale and soap scum
Concealed mixer valves and pipework create a crisp and minimalist look.

This is a work of art, even if I do say so myself!

From a dark and dingy space earlier this month this kitchen and dining room has had a massive transformation to become a bright a beautiful space that will be the heart of the home

Fully ripped out
Floor uplifted and screeded, including in to the conservatory
Re-wired for new sockets, appliances and lighting
Artex ceilings plastered
Fully redecorated
LVT flooring to the kitchen, dining room and conservatory
Stunning real wood kitchen installed
Twin Belfast sink
Integrated fridge, dish washer, bin, carousel units
New cupboard built using space under the stairs
Bespoke dresser/larder unit with bi-fold doors
New range cooker with canopy - awaiting a solid oak lintel to finish the look
Beautiful quartz worktops wrapping around the kitchen and breakfast bar.

A slightly unusual kitchen refurbishment - my elderly client had moved in to a property with an almost new kitchen. Gloss white, handleless doors, integrated fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher. Induction hob, oven in a tower unit. But…..,it just wasn’t to her taste. Too modern, too clinical and not great worktop space. It felt small due to the tower units. What she really wanted was an older style, a freestanding cooker, an under worktop washing machine that wasn’t integrated and a freestanding fridge freezer, no modern/square inset sink……Really the opposite of what most people want now.

The base units on the right were recessed back and were really wall units….largely because there wasn’t the width for standard base units….not according to any designer anyway. With a bit of trickery and adaptation of proper base units she now has much more storage, drawers, a bin cupboard and loads more worktop space.

It definitely feels much more homely now and she’s so very pleased. I know she was really worried about having a random tradesman (or several) in her home but having been recommended by a good mutual friend I know she’s felt so relieved to have me do the work, not rip her off and treat her home like my own.

I totally lied. I thought I’d done my last bathroom of the year….but I forgot about the alterations to this one.

I fitted this out a couple of years ago but due to a change in circumstances the client needed a larger, walk-in shower and no longer needed the bath.
With the window midway through the new shower position this required a wall to be installed.
I love having a shower mixer outside the shower area - who wants to get their arm wet in the shower whilst waiting for the hot water?

These are some top quality solid wall panels and cost a few quid each so we really needed to minimise the amount needing replacement.
It’s been no easy task - the panels aren’t light work, the shower tray definitely wasn’t light work (first one was delivered with a crack in it) and to add a whole lot of achilles tendon pain on top just for fun….but we got there.

With a little trickery you’d never know the final layout wasn’t the original layout.

Floor being replaced next week.

It’s that time of year again. Temperatures are dropping. I’m bound to be getting a few calls to deal with burst pipes to outside taps.

Save yourself the cost of a repair with 2 simple options:

1) if your outside tap can be isolated via an isolation valve inside the house then turn the isolation valve off AND open the outside tap to release any water from the pipes. This will stop any water in the pipes from freezing and expanding (which is the cause of a pipe bursting)

2) if you can’t isolate the outside tap then get yourself a tap cover. Easily fitted in a few seconds and will help prevent the cold weather from freezing the pipes

Having completed this client’s bathroom a few weeks ago, which required a two-part resin Damp Proof Membrane to be applied to a concrete floor with no DPM I’d also installed the new LVT flooring through in to the hallway.
They then decided the hallway and doors could do with updating.
So, lots of repairs to the walls, new doors and handles, new skirting & lighting, new radiator and all redecorated.
A much more inviting entrance.!!
