📍 Langford – 1st Fix in Progress

One of the most important parts of any install… getting the size right 👇

On this lounge setup, we’ve physically marked out multiple TV sizes on the wall so the client can see exactly how each option will look in real life - no guesswork, just confidence in the decision.

The plan? A Samsung Frame TV above the fireplace (great choice 👌), with the final call now down to 75” vs 85”… not a bad dilemma to have.

We’ve wired this space ready for:
🔹 The Frame TV install
🔹 Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar for seriously impressive audio
🔹 AND a traditional flat screen option - just in case plans change

Because here’s the truth…
💡 Wiring now is cheap - it’s the cable you didn’t run that costs the most.

This is why we always like to get involved early - designing flexibility into the system from day one.

Behind the scenes 👷‍♂️🔌

This month has been full of 1st fix cabling… not always the prettiest photos, but some of the most important work we do.

Raw building sites, open walls, cables everywhere - this is where a great system really starts.

We always aim to get involved as early as possible, ideally before the main building work begins. It gives us the chance to properly understand the property, the layout, and how the client is going to live in the space… which means everything is designed right from the ground up.

Because once the walls are closed up - that’s it.

Quality at this stage is everything.

That’s why we only use high-quality cabling throughout our installs:
✔️ Better performance across AV, networking & control systems
✔️ Greater reliability long-term
✔️ Future-ready infrastructure (no need to rip walls open later)
✔️ Less interference and signal loss
✔️ Built to last as long as the property itself

Big shoutout to .shane for supplying top-quality cable as always 👊

More progress shots coming soon…

Site check-in this week… and the pool has completely vanished.

This indoor swimming pool has been fully ripped out as part of a major refurbishment that will transform the space into a stunning relaxation and entertaining area, complete with a new orangery.

For now, we’re waiting for the other trades to start rebuilding before we return to bring the technology behind the space to life.

Our role in the project includes:
• Lighting control design
• Network infrastructure
• Integrated audio control

The lighting has been carefully designed so the two rooms will have simple scene control - things like Swim, Relax, or Party modes that instantly set the atmosphere.

Each keypad will also control the audio system, meaning there’s no need to reach for a phone when you’re poolside.

This project is also expanding an existing Rako system we previously installed for the client, which already controls the cinema room and living areas of the home.

We’re looking forward to seeing this one come back to life over the coming months.

Smart homes don’t always need wires.

A box of D-cell batteries ready for a set of Lutron Sivoia Triathlon Roller Shades we installed last week.

Battery-powered systems like these are a brilliant option for existing homes or retrofit projects where running new cables simply isn’t practical.

With 3–4 years of typical battery life from a single set, they provide all the benefits of automated blinds without the disruption of major building work.

That means you can still enjoy:
• Automated shading
• Smart home integration
• Clean, wireless installation
• Effortless control of natural light

Just because your home wasn’t pre-wired for smart technology doesn’t mean it’s out of reach.

If you’re thinking about smart blinds, lighting or home automation but are worried about the infrastructure - get in touch and we’ll happily talk through the options.

Always learning. Always improving.

Last week kicked off with a couple of days spent at CEDIA HQ attending the Smart Home Lighting Design Course, delivered by the experienced lighting professional Andy Bull.

While our team already has extensive experience with lighting control systems, panel builds, and system design, it’s always valuable to step back, connect with industry peers, and pick up those all-important extra insights that help refine what we do.

The course covered topics including:
• Dimming types
• Lighting control principles
• Circadian rhythm lighting
• Wired vs wireless systems
• Keypad design & layouts
• Integrating different lighting technologies throughout the home

All of this feeds directly into the systems we design and install - helping us create lighting environments that are intuitive to use, beautifully balanced, and built to perform reliably for years to come.

Training like this ensures we continue delivering the best possible smart home experiences for our clients.

Product spotlight: In-wall WiFi access points 🔧📶

This week we helped a client solve a common problem in larger homes.

The property had been wired with single CAT6 data points in several rooms for devices like TVs and printers, but unfortunately little thought had gone into providing strong WiFi coverage throughout the house. With a large property, relying on a single router by the front door simply wasn’t going to deliver the performance needed.

Our solution was to install TP-Link in-wall wireless access points, making full use of the existing cabling already in place.

These neat little units plug straight into the data point and are hard-wired back to the network, meaning they deliver far better performance than typical mesh WiFi systems.

Even better, each access point also provides additional Ethernet ports, turning a single cable into multiple wired connections. This was particularly useful in the home office where only one cable had originally been installed.

The client can now hard-wire devices like:
• Desktop PC
• Printer
• NAS storage

This takes load off the WiFi network and leaves more speed and bandwidth available for laptops, tablets and mobile devices.

A simple upgrade that makes a huge difference to everyday connectivity.

If your home struggles with WiFi coverage, we can help design a solution that works with your property and existing wiring.

📍 Driveway Intercom – Clifton, Bedfordshire

Another one of our favourites… a driveway intercom installation at a beautiful new build bungalow in Clifton, Bedfordshire.

For this project we installed a stainless steel flush-mounted intercom, neatly set into the new brick piers at the entrance to the property. The clean stainless finish works perfectly with the brickwork, giving a sleek and durable solution for everyday use.

This system is paired with a stunning double opening barred gate by our friends Anglia Steelcraft 👏, bringing security, convenience and a great first impression together at the entrance to the home.

Driveway intercoms are a brilliant addition to any property, allowing homeowners to see, speak with and grant access to visitors without leaving the house.

Planning gates or a new build? It’s always best to design the intercom system in from the start.

Commercial Audio – Final Commissioning in the Big Smoke 🔊🏙️

We were back in London last week to complete the final commissioning and sound tests for this stylish new designer clothing store.

This project was delivered on behalf of our pals Harper Mason Ltd, M&E specialists who understand the importance of bringing in the right people for specialist systems.

From the early stages of the project we worked closely with the team, designing the commercial audio system, attending meetings with the architect and client to explain how the system would work within the space, and assisting during the first fix stage to make installation as smooth and efficient as possible.

Once the build progressed, our team returned to complete the second fix installation, commissioning and final handover.

Now that the store has officially been handed over and the noisy builders have left site, it gave us the perfect opportunity to fine-tune the audio levels properly. With the space furnished and quiet, we could balance the system so the music delivers the right atmosphere throughout the store.

We also spent time providing full client training, ensuring the team feel confident using the system day-to-day.

A great collaboration and a fantastic looking retail space.

If you’re an electrician, M&E contractor or architect working on commercial projects, partnering with specialists early can make a huge difference to the final result.

We’re always happy to assist with system design, first fix guidance, second fix installation and commissioning for professional audio, AV and smart technology systems.

📩 Get in touch if you’d like to collaborate on an upcoming project.

Ajax Alarm Upgrade – Henlow 🔐

A quick but very worthwhile installation recently in Henlow, where we upgraded an older wired intruder alarm that had been in place since the property was built. It was still doing its job — but after seeing the system we installed for a family member, the client decided it was time to modernise.

We installed a professionally configured Ajax wireless intruder alarm system, giving them:

👉 Smart app control — arm, disarm and monitor from anywhere
👉 Instant notifications — real-time alerts for total peace of mind
👉 Cleaner installation — no disruption compared to rewiring
👉 Modern, reliable detection with pet-friendly options
👉 Future expandability — CCTV, fire detection, automation and more

Professionally installed security isn’t just about the kit — it’s about correct design, positioning, setup and ongoing support so the system works exactly as it should.

Thinking about upgrading your alarm or starting fresh? We’re always happy to advise.

From Period Charm to Cutting-Edge Living 🏡➡️✨

We recently carried out a site survey for a long-standing client who has made the move from a beautiful traditional home in Melbourn to a stunning modern new build near Addenbrooke’s, Cambridgeshire.

Two completely different properties — and naturally, very different technology requirements. The good news? That’s exactly what we specialise in. Whether it’s sympathetically upgrading character homes or designing tech for brand-new builds, we tailor everything to how you live.

This new property is already wired for full fibre to the premises (FTTP), and with those incoming speeds, a WiFi 7 upgrade is on the horizon 🚀

👉 Having WiFi that matches your broadband speed is crucial:
• Working from home — stable video calls, fast cloud access, no dropouts
• Gaming — low latency and consistent performance
• Streaming & smart homes — seamless 4K content, automation reliability and whole-home coverage

Fast internet is only half the story — the right network infrastructure ensures you actually benefit from it.

Planning a move, upgrade, or new build? We’re always happy to advise.

Rako Lighting Upgrade – Winchmore Hill ✨

We were recently called out to a new property in Winchmore Hill where the client had inherited an older Rako Controls Ltd lighting control system. The setup worked, but with just one main master switch and a few scattered controls, it wasn’t giving the flexibility you’d expect in a modern home.

Armed with new Rako keypads, we took over the existing installation — providing clear in-room lighting control while also upgrading the system for full app control from anywhere 📱💡

After a quick call to talk confirmed the system was originally installed in 2009 — and it’s still fully supported by the UK brand

That’s the beauty of choosing professionally installed systems: longevity, reliability, and ongoing serviceability for the lifetime of your home.

If you’ve inherited a smart home system, or want to upgrade lighting control without starting from scratch, we’re always happy to help.
