We have been a Lantra Training Provider for nearly 23 years and it still astounds me that a large amount of companies, contractors and self employed still think of training as an unnecessary expense!
In industries such as land-based work, construction, agriculture, arboriculture and grounds maintenance, the safe use of work equipment is not optional—it is a legal and moral responsibility. As a LANTRA training provider, our role is to ensure individuals and businesses have the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to operate equipment safely, competently and in full compliance with the law.
LANTRA is a nationally recognised awarding body that sets high standards for vocational training in land-based and environmental sectors. Being an approved LANTRA training provider means delivering training that:
• Meets nationally recognised standards
• Is industry relevant and up to date
• Focuses on both theory and practical competence
• Promotes safe working practices and risk awareness
Learners who successfully complete LANTRA training gain evidence of competence that employers, insurers and regulators trust.
Why Training Is Essential Before Using Equipment
One of the most common causes of workplace accidents is the misuse of equipment by untrained or insufficiently trained individuals. PUWER is explicit: no one should use work equipment unless they have received adequate training.
Training ensures that operators understand:
• How the equipment works
• The hazards associated with its use
• Correct operating techniques
• Pre-use checks and maintenance requirements
• Emergency procedures and limitations of the equipment
Without proper training, even experienced workers can develop unsafe habits that put themselves and others at risk.
Legal, Financial and Human Consequences
Failure to comply with PUWER can result in serious consequences, including:
• Enforcement action by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
• Prosecution, fines and legal costs
• Invalidated insurance policies
• Serious injury or fatal accidents
Beyond legal penalties, the human cost of accidents—pain, lost income, long-term health issues and emotional impact—can be devastating.
LANTRA training supports PUWER compliance by providing structured, assessed learning that demonstrates competence. Courses are designed to ensure learners not only pass an assessment, but genuinely understand how to work safely.
A Culture of Safety
Being a LANTRA training provider is about more than delivering courses—it is about promoting a culture where safety comes first. Equipment should never be used on the basis of assumption, experience alone or “learning on the job.” Training is not a box-ticking exercise; it is a critical safeguard.
