⚠️ Storm Goretti – Boiler Advice ⚠️

With Storm Goretti on the way, I’ve had a few people ask whether they should turn their boiler off.

👉 In most cases, it’s best to KEEP your boiler on – especially during cold, wet, or windy conditions.
Why?

✔️ Keeping the heating ticking over helps prevent frozen pipes
✔️ Sudden temperature drops can cause damage if systems are fully off
✔️ Modern boilers are designed to run safely in bad weather

Top tips to stay safe:
🔹 Leave your heating on low or set a frost protection mode
🔹 Make sure your condensate pipe isn’t blocked or frozen
🔹 If you lose power, don’t keep resetting the boiler – wait until it’s safe
🔹 If you smell gas or notice anything unusual, turn the gas off and call the emergency gas number 0800 111 999

🏠 Let’s Make Your Home Cheaper to Heat This Winter 🔧❄️

Nobody wants sky-high bills, so here are a few simple things you can do that genuinely make a difference:

✔️ Use your timer
Heat your home only when you need it. Short bursts are cheaper than leaving it on all day.

✔️ Drop the flow temp on combi boilers
Set it to 50–55°C. Your radiators will still get warm, but your boiler won’t work as hard.

✔️ Check your boiler pressure
Low pressure = poor heating = higher bills. Aim for around 1–1.5 bar.

✔️ Let your radiators breathe
Move sofas away from radiators so the heat can spread properly.

✔️ Don’t ignore cold patches
Radiators cold at the top? Bleed them. Cold at the bottom? They may need a flush.

✔️ Small insulation tricks help

• Don’t crank the thermostat – Every degree you turn it up can add around 10% to your bill. Aim for 18–20°C.
• Use TRVs properly – Turn radiators down in rooms you don’t use much, not off completely.
• Keep furniture away from radiators – A blocked radiator can’t heat a room properly.
• Set your boiler to eco mode – Most boilers have one. It heats your water slower but saves you money.
• Lower your flow temperature – Modern combi boilers work best at 50–55°C for heating. Small tweak, big saving.
