Remember to watch out for nesting bumblebees when gardening as they will often nest in long grass or old rodent holes.

This Early Bumblebee queen was spotted persistently returning to this patch of long grass and is likely to be nesting there. If possible, leave the area undisturbed. Nests usually remain active for 2-4 months.

A perfect day for a BeeWalk today for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust! It highlights how important gardens are to bumblebees as unfortunately very few bees were spotted in the surrounding countryside.

I found the top shrub for attracting bumblebees on my walk was this Pieris japonica (Forest Flame) which thrives in acid soils and partial shade. Queen Buff-tailed & Early bumblebees were present in abundance!
