Contemporary Elegance in a Historic Village

It’s not every day that two of our bespoke MRT Architects homes come up for sale in the same picturesque village (see previous post). Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of shaping Alveston, Warwickshire, with more than four stunning new residences, a beautifully renovated village hall, and even an elegant extension to a Georgian cottage.

One standout creation is The White House – a striking multi-gabled design that exudes contemporary sophistication. Its two wings frame a dramatic galleried landing and a sweeping staircase set beneath a sunlit atrium. Inside, the open-plan layout flows effortlessly, complemented by chic furnishings and high-end finishes.

Glass Walls and River Views: Transforming a 70s Property into a Modern Family Home

Situated in a great position on a ridge overlooking the meandering river Avon, this 70’s property needed a makeover to justify a glorious location.

The project involved complete internal remodeling including the removal of a solid external wall on the river side, replaced by a glass wall for a stunning view.

Extensions were added for a growing family, and all the walls were rendered and roofs slated for a crisp contemporary style. Inside there are feature staircases, wine cellar and a suspended log burner to compliment this exceptional house.

Grade II Listed Cottage meets Contemporary Extension

In 2017 we met with the owner of a Grade II Listed cottage in the Anglo-Saxon village of Wormington.

The brief was flexible but an extension and rationalisation of a dodgy boundary by agreement with a good neighbour was talked about.

There was a shard woodshed half on and half off the natural dividing line on this pair of early 18th Century ranges which provided the opportunity to extend the house.

An application to extend the cottage with a contemporary addition was approved by enlightened Council Conservation Officers who supported a modern but sensitive replacement of the sheds! with a single storey glazed structure with floating roof.

There was an excellent collaboration with intuitive and supporting client which created lots of exciting changes to the interior culmination with the new kitchen and dining room which projects into the beautiful garden.

There are two new bath/shower rooms a new front door and hallway with sliding glass screens and alterations and improvements to create a perfect home full of personal effects and full of the clients’ personality. A wonderful synergy of architect builder and owner coming together over a four year project to reach a great and very satisfying achievement.

The first phase of a new Health Hub at The Cleevelands Centre in Bishops Cleeve has now been finished and occupied.

Careful thought has been put into the internal designs and material choices to ensure a welcoming and enjoyable environment. Work on phase 2 is currently in progress, and a blog update will be shared soon!

MRT Architects were delighted to support the Rotary / Shakespeare Hospice Charity Golf Day held at Stratford upon Avon Golf Club by entering a team.

12 teams entered the event which raised approximately £2,500 for our local hospice. The MRT team comprised of our Partner, Stephen Lewis, former Partner David Taylor, Harry Jolly NFU and Simon Allen, Simon Allen and Associates. Unfortunately, we were not amongst the winners, but nevertheless greatly enjoyed participating in the event
