A tough year for cultivation, but we enjoy what we can. This small bean offering will probably be paired with some pasta, wild garlic butter and Parmesan. How are you coping with the drought? ☀️

So lovely to see The Living Line - a 146m long nature illustration - on the art walk which runs past our allotments. We hosted drawing workshops led by the artist with local Carpenters Primary School. The kids took time to look at the plants and wildlife on their doorstep and then created fantastic botanical drawings which feature in the installation 💚

The city is home to an amazing array of plants and wildlife and the allotments are a perfect place to encourage enthusiasm for the natural world. The school has a plot at the allotments, brilliantly managed by - we’re really looking forward to the kids sharing their knowledge of the plants, insects and birds with us and their families and friends.

So much colour at the plots! The sun is out and so are the flowers.

Please support us as we ask .legacy to reconsider the plans for the development bordering our plots - the current design will overshadow, restricting the quality of cultivation over a significant area of the site.

We welcome the development but please let us continue to enjoy and share all of our green space.

How wonderful to find this beauty on the plot after many weeks stuck inside with various illnesses including covid. It has been difficult to find joy or even contentment with such daily heartbreaking news but today we enjoyed the sun and dug and sowed seeds and revelled in this beautiful big cauliflower. The bee hives were opened for the first time in months and they’re doing well. It’s impossible to quantify how important these plots are for so many. Getting outdoors, nurturing, cultivating, mindfulness, community within a green space - at what price?

Please support us as we ask .legacy to reconsider the plans for the development bordering our plots - the current design will overshadow, restricting the quality of cultivation over a significant area of the site.

We welcome the development but please let us continue to enjoy and share all of our green space.

DEADLINE: TONIGHT!
Plans for the Bridgewater development have been resubmitted with a report more accurately describing the overshadow of our site.
It includes a submission to remove the Bridgewater Triangle from the original Legacy Communities Scheme & thereby remove the requirement for a townscape design that would be less problematic for cultivation at the site.

Submit objections to: [email protected]
Title: 'Objection to 21/00403/OUT & 21/00561/VAR'
Include name & address to validate.

Points of objection to 21/00561/VAR:
It removes requirement to adhere to LLDC Local Plan which specifically determines that the area should be designed in sympathy for the Pudding Mill Allotment Site.
The Manor Gardening Society agreed to & signed their lease agreement with the LLDC for the allotment site in the understanding that the LLDC Local plan was the expected development plan for the area.
The allotments were designed & laid out to sit within the context of the Legacy Communities Scheme.

21/00403/OUT Points of objection:
The Aecom 'Bridgewater Triangle - Pudding Mill Allotment Light Study' now provides a more accurate detailing of seasonal overshadow, confirms that areas would suffer significant loss of direct sun, suffer compression of growing season & critical reduction of direct sunlight required for healthy crop growth.
BRE guidelines are still being applied to the design - BRE guidelines don’t consider overshadow in respect of food cultivation in an allotment setting.
The plans:
- are at odds with the LLDC local plan (2015-2031) which intend a less crowded townscape & more sympathetic layout in respect direct light to the allotment site.
- contradict the requirements of the LDA Compulsory Purchase Order 2005 (11.'Special Categories of Land, 11.1, 11.2).
- contravene the spirit of the permissions given to the Olympic Development Authority (09_90410_FUMODA, Masterplan) to develop the lands.
- contravene the London Plan in respect of its approach to protecting Metropolitan Open Land (3D.10, for example).
The Newham Unitary Development Plan (in OS7) seeks to protect green spaces, and in OS13 seeks to protect existing allotments.

The plans for the Bridgewater development which will overshadow our allotment site at Pudding Mill have been resubmitted. This means we have to re-submit objections. Part of the reason for the resubmission is due to the weight of objections they received last time - so every objection will help to preserve the quality of the allotment site.
The application itself is essentially the same as before, with the inclusion of a report that more accurately describes the overshadow. There is a difference this time in that there are TWO applications to object to as follows:
21/00403/OUT is the re-submission of the plans that we objected to before.
21/00561/VAR is an application to remove (or 'slot-out') the Bridgewater Triangle from the original Legacy Communities Scheme and thereby remove the requirement for a townscape design that would be less problematic for cultivation at the site. If either of these applications is not passed at the planning committee hearing then the plans will have to be amended and resubmitted. Once again, let's tell them loud and clear why they shouldn't approve the plans.

Submit your objection by email to: [email protected]
Head your email 'Objection to 21/00403/OUT and 21/00561/VAR'
Include your name and address or your objection will not be valid.

Reminder: we ask .legacy to reconsider the plans for the development bordering our plots - the current design will overshadow, restricting the quality of cultivation over a significant area of the site.

We welcome the development but please let us continue to enjoy and share all of our green space.
