76 Southbank - Double Recognition at the Civic Trust Awards

We are proud to share that 76 Southbank has received both a Civic Trust Award and a Special Award for Sustainability. A significant achievement recognising excellence in design, sustainability and contribution to the built environment.

This landmark project on London’s South Bank represents a thoughtful transformation of a Grade II listed building originally designed by Sir Denys Lasdun, carefully refurbished and extended to deliver high-quality, future-ready workspace while respecting its architectural heritage.

At Watkins Payne, we are delighted to have contributed as Services and Sustainability Engineers, supporting the delivery of a scheme that places environmental performance and long-term efficiency at its core.

The launch of Version 1 of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard marks a significant step forward for the built environment, providing a clear, science-led framework to verify Net Zero Carbon performance based on measured in-use data. Having contributed to the Pilot Testing Programme, Watkins Payne is pleased to have supported the development of a robust, cross-industry methodology that aligns with the UK’s carbon targets and 1.5°C trajectory. The Standard introduces greater clarity, consistency, and accountability across key performance areas, setting a new benchmark for how buildings measure, report, and validate their carbon performance.

Site works now underway at 21 Glasshouse Street, with BAM Construct UK now in place marking a key milestone.

A recent design meeting brought together the lift contractor, BAM, and our VT Principal Consultant Paul Wells to coordinate the vertical transportation strategy ahead of the next phase.

These sessions are essential in getting the fundamentals right ensuring systems are well integrated and perform as intended from day one.

A positive step forward as the project moves into construction.

We are delighted to announce that Kim Peters has been promoted to a Technical Director position within the practice.
