We were approached by a charity called Talking Tree, to help assist with installing swift bird boxes in local schools,to help boost and regain the population. We have provided access with our MEWP on Saxon school shepperton, Echleford school ashford and Walton Oak in Walton. Conservation and protection is a large part of our business although many will not believe it. Being a local and commercial support arborist company is not just about felling and removing trees and habitat. It’s about assisting with conservation efforts, and working with building and commercial company’s to educate them on best practise. Of when to carry out felling work, and the protective measures that can be taken to, try to minimise the effects of their work on the land, habitat and wildlife.

We have recently received this email to say swift bids have occupied the boxes that we installed in Saxon school, which is a brilliant result. Hopefully we will hear that the Walton oak boxes and Echleford boxes have also been located and are being used. Please do look up talking tree who are based in Staines to see the work that they are carrying out with in the local area.

Which each come with their own challenges and problems to overcome come along the way. Whilst continuing to maintain its main role of supporting our tree team where needed. This video is a short clip from a job we carried out on Thursday night. We teamed up with after they received a call at 1246 on Thursday to say Watford hospital has lost power or it’s back up power supply, leaving the hospital in a vulnerable state relying on the mains supply only. It there was a power outage or cut this would result in a catastrophic situation for obvious reasons. The lead contractor had requested for labor and plant from Think site services to assist in the set up and to prep the site for the 6 large generators that were in transit on their way to site.
We arrived at 2038 with our hook loader crane lorry, carrying fork lift and skid steer. We supplied 10 x qualified and determined men.

Out moral tasks were to move storage containers on site to make room for the generators, move concrete barriers to make room for the Lorrys. Distribute the boxes of cables to the locations of where the generators will be located we used the fork lift to run these around the site and unload from the artics as they arrived, we located a car park for the artics to park in to be unloaded as they could not negotiate the tight hospital road infrastructure. Our men split into teams with the electricians and provided man power to assist the pulling and set up of the cables to the switch board to the generators this is where the skid steer come into its own pulling these heavy cables and minimising labour and effort. The lead contractor had 1 Hi-ab lorry on site to distribute the heavy generators but to set the lorry up took time, so we assisted with our lorry to unload the artics and follow the lorry placing the generators in location, our lorry placed fuel tanks in location to save time for the large lorry. Set up time to unload the artics and then to place in location was taking too long for light weight items.

All in all it was a good team effort and our biggest contractual task to date in the shortest deadline to be met. All company’s pulled together to make it work. We are proud of all our lads and the effort that was put into the job that night.
