Gower National Landscape

Gower National Landscape This page is managed by the Gower National Landscape team. Gower National Landscape is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Its distinctive character and natural beauty so precious that it is to be protected in the national interest. Gower – a land of history, beauty, and amazing variety. It was the first landscape to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), in 1956, and every one of its 188 sq km is jam packed with places of natural, historical and cultural interest. Plus, it has some of the UK’s

/ Europe’s ‘best’ beaches…little wonder then that it is one of the most cherished landscapes in Britain! The Gower Landscape Partnership (GLP) aims to inspire and help local people learn more about and look after Gower’s special and distinctive features. GLP has been successful in securing £1.3m from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s (HLF) Landscape Partnership programme, and additional funding and support from: Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-13 (which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development); Natural Resources Wales; and National Trust. The Partnership has a core team of 3 staff, employed and supported by City and County of Swansea. Pressures from factors such as the post-war economics of farming and the encroachment of development especially from the city of Swansea have not served the scattered communities and intrinsic qualities of this area well. The formation of a Landscape Partnership over the past few years has been significant in uniting a wide range of partners with interests in the peninsula to develop a suite of projects which will have a significant impact in addressing some of the challenges facing the area. The Landscape Partnership has identified six “clusters” of works that will deliver significant changes to the appreciation, understanding and enjoyment of Gower and will leave a legacy to protect the landscape from modern day pressures and conserve its protected nature.NRW logo website

The works “clusters” are:

Rhossili
Archaeology
Interpretation
Penclawdd
Nature (Biodiversity)
Training

Up to 60 projects will be rolled out during the next four years by the core team, individual partners and procured contractors. Some of the projects that will be delivered include:

Conserving medieval agricultural systems, ‘The Vile’, found on the Peninsula
Renewing traditional events such as wassailing and Mari Lwyd
Apprenticeships in traditional heritage skills
Recording and interpreting Gower’s industrial and cultural history
Conservation of natural and built features
Schools, community groups, and individuals are encouraged to participate in the projects. If you want to find out how to get involved, please get in touch – our details are on the contact page. Headline figures to be achieved:

Dry stone walling / hedges – 2,500m
Meadow and hay planting – 200ha
Training sessions – 50
Number of people to be engaged – 13,250
Number of surveys to be undertaken – 50
Number of people to be informed about Gower – 2 million

Mae Gŵyr yn ardal llawn hanes, harddwch ac amrywiaeth rhyfeddol. Dyma oedd y dirwedd gyntaf i gael ei dynodi fel Ardal o Harddwch Naturiol Eithriadol (AoHNE) ym 1956 ac mae'r 188 km sg cyfan o dir yn llawn lleoedd o ddiddordeb naturiol, hanesyddol a diwylliannol. Hefyd, mae ganddi rai o'r traethau 'gorau' yn y DU/Ewrop...nid yw'n syndod felly ei bod yn un o'r tirweddau mwyaf arwyddocaol ym Mhrydain! Mae Partneriaeth Tirwedd Gŵyr (PTG) yn bwriadu ysbrydoli a helpu pobl leol i ddysgu mwy am nodweddion nodedig ac arbennig penrhyn Gŵyr. Mae PTG wedi llwyddo i sicrhau £1.3m gan Raglen Partneriaeth Tirwedd Cronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri yn ogystal â chyllid a chefnogaeth ychwanegol gan: Gynllun Datblygu Gwledig Cymru 2007-13 (sy'n cael ei ariannu gan Lywodraeth Cymru a Chronfa Amaethyddol Ewrop ar gyfer Datblygu Gwledig); Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru a'r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol. Mae gan y bartneriaeth dîm craidd â 3 aelod o staff sydd wedi'u cyflogi a'u cefnogi gan Ddinas a Sir Abertawe. Nid yw pwysau o ganlyniad i ffactorau megis economeg ffermio ar ôl y rhyfel a llechfeddiant datblygiad, yn enwedig yn ninas Abertawe, wedi gwasanaethu cymunedau gwasgaredig a nodweddion cynhenid yr ardal hon yn dda. Mae ffurfio Partneriaeth Tirwedd dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf wedi chwarae rhan sylweddol wrth uno amrywiaeth eang o bartneriaid sydd â diddordeb yn y penrhyn i ddatblygu cyfres o brosiectau a fydd yn cael effaith sylweddol ar fynd i'r afael â rhai o'r heriau sy'n wynebu'r ardal. Mae'r Bartneriaeth Tirwedd wedi nodi chwe 'chlwstwr' o waith a fydd yn cyflwyno newidiadau sylweddol o ran gwerthfawrogi, deall a mwynhau penrhyn Gŵyr, a byddant yn gadael treftadaeth i ddiogelu'r dirwedd rhag pwysau modern a gwarchod ei natur warchodedig. naturalresources.wales/?lang=cy

Y 'clystyrau' yw:

Rhosili
Archaeoleg
Dehongliad
Penclawdd
Natur (Bioamrywiaeth)
Hyfforddiant

Bydd hyd at 60 o brosiectau'n cael eu cyflwyno gan y tîm craidd, partneriaid unigol a chontractwyr sydd wedi'u caffael yn ystod y pedair blynedd nesaf. Mae rhai o'r prosiectau a fydd yn cael eu cyflwyno'n cynnwys:

Cadw systemau amaethyddol o'r oesoedd canol, sef 'y Vile' ar benrhyn Gŵyr
Adnewyddu digwyddiadau traddodiadol megis gwasaela a'r Fari Lwyd
Prentisiaethau mewn sgiliau treftadaeth traddodiadol
Cofnodi a dehongli hanes diwydiannol a diwylliannol Gŵyr
Cadw nodweddion naturiol ac adeiledig
Anogir ysgolion, grwpiau cymunedol ac unigolion i gymryd rhan yn y prosiectau. Os hoffech gael mwy o wybodaeth am sut i gymryd rhan, cysylltwch â ni - mae ein manylion ar y dudalen gyswllt. Prif ffigyrau i'w cyflawni:

Adeiladu waliau sychion/cloddiau - 2,500m
Plannu dôl a gwellt - 200ha
Sesiynau hyfforddi - 50
Nifer y bobl i'w cynnwys - 13,250
Nifer yr arolygiadau i'w cwblhau - 50
Nifer y bobl i'w hysbysu am benrhyn Gŵyr - 2 filiwn

✨🙌This week we celebrate and want to say a big thank you to the amazing and dedicated volunteers, who help look after our green spaces, vital habitats and wildlife.✨🙌

🌳🪚🪻Our volunteers support a wide range of conservation efforts - from tackling invasive species that crowd out native woodland flora, to clearing brambles so ground-layer plants can thrive. They also plant and lay hedgerows, which provide essential corridors and shelter for birds, insects and small mammals.

🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🐭🐾Throughout the year, volunteers monitor species, lead walks, support surveys and share knowledge - helping others connect with nature.

🙏💚Thank you for your time, energy and passion!

✨🙌Rydym yn dathlu Wythnos Gwirfoddolwyr yr wythnos hon a hoffem ddiolch yn fawr i'r holl wirfoddolwyr arbennig ac ymroddedig sy'n helpu i ofalu am ein mannau gwyrdd, am gynefinoedd hanfodol ac am fywyd gwyllt.✨🙌

🌳🪚🪻Mae ein gwirfoddolwyr yn cefnogi ystod eang o ymdrechion cadwraeth - o fynd i'r afael â rhywogaethau goresgynnol sy'n cymryd lle fflora coetiroedd brodorol i glirio mieri fel y gall planhigion ar y ddaear ffynnu. Maent hefyd yn plannu ac yn gosod gwrychoedd, sy'n darparu coridorau hanfodol a lloches i adar, pryfed a mamaliaid bach.

🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🐭🐾Trwy gydol y flwyddyn, mae gwirfoddolwyr yn monitro rhywogaethau, yn arwain teithiau cerdded, yn cefnogi arolygon ac yn rhannu gwybodaeth - gan helpu eraill i gysylltu â natur.

🙏💚Diolch am eich amser, eich egni a’ch brwdfrydedd!
