It’s not very often I am left in complete ‘awe’ but this morning, I met a young 17 year old waitress from Austria at breakfast and she was working in Menorca at our hotel but her passage, air fare and sponsorship all paid for by the European Government. She was such a pleasant young lady, very polite and chatty, telling us that she already speaks 6 different languages ( at17 years old)😳
She wanted to pursue a career in tourism and was working at the bottom and hoping to make it to the top in years to come 😳
She was Dyslexic but this doesn’t hold her back or hinder her in any way😳
Concerned for the time she was taking to talk to us, she politely said, ”I’d better get back to work , we are very busy”, she showed a maturity and a conscientiousness to all the other staff and guests that is rarely seen in such a young person.
This is quite remarkable and I don’t know any other 17 year old who knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life in time to come, and already speaking 6 languages, she has more in her locker already than most kids her age.
I have no doubt that she has a very bright future and I was so pleased to have met her.
I can’t help but feel a sense of sadness however, because back in the UK I see kids her age, that do not have the privilege of Government sponsorship or funding to help them onto a path towards a very successful career even if they are academically bright.
