The last of the wall panelling up and very nearly primed in the colour equivalent of F&Bs ‘Stirabout’. Back on Tuesday to build one more tall cupboard to hide the consumer unit and paint a bit more.

A very broken hand-made sink scuppered the worktop templating for a few weeks, it’s taken a while to be able to finish this, but it’s looking glorious already.

Who wouldn’t want to ‘laundry’ here?

Our handmade Shaker doors painted and fitted in the colour equivalent of Farrow and Balls ‘Dibber’. New quartz fitted by Anything Stone.

We’re back next week to panel and paint the last bit of blue wall around the window and to build a new worktop to ceiling cabinet to hide the consumer unit. Neither could be done until the worktop was in place.

Bank Holiday weekend building…

Next the new roof and a lot more painting.
New doors for the addition and a revamp for the glazed doors too.

Black stain on the rustic timber is helping new and old disappear under the sycamore trees. It helps a relatively large build feel a bit more inconspicuous.

A week at home, writing up estimates, making doors and building a ‘workshop’ extension…

Never a dull moment.

We originally built our garden workshop during the first Covid lockdown. Prior to that we had various small industrial workshops in Swindon which had much more space but cost an awful lot of money. Six years ago that amounted to a £1100 a month in rent along with inflated electricity charges. Covid uncertainty was the main catalyst for giving it up.

The workshop hasn’t been touched since we built it, but now it’s time to do a proper job, (all things we wanted to do at the outset but couldn’t). We made a pretty good job of it considering the severe lack of materials at the time, we basically built it from whatever we could get hold of and it’s served us well.

Now though, we’re adding a new storage pod to the side, a small seating area to the front and a pergola for something lovely to climb over. We’ve also rearranged the machinery inside which has improved the working area and we’ll add a new roof.

For now, slightly achy. More tomorrow between painting doors et al…

We’ve built a fair few fitted wardrobes over the years, these were two of my favourites, both in the same Old Town street.

Exceptionally tall ceilings make for exceptional storage, but in smaller spaces, fitted wardrobes utilise every square millimetre of height, depth and width.

A fully refurbished and extended Mark Wilkinson ‘Cooks Kitchen’.

We are so happy with the way this has turned out.

At over 20 years old and painted twice, it was a little dated and very tired. It also lacked storage, so the the main brief was to create extra cabinetry which would blend in. Some would have ripped out and started again, but this is an iconic hand made kitchen. Even after 20 years, they regularly sell for £10k second hand, that’s before painting and fitting.

The plan:

• The island grew.
• Two awkward corners have brand new seamless cabinetry.
• We fitted a hidden spice rack and integrated bin unit.
• The large fridge surround with integrated pantry storage was built to house the American fridge.
• We fitted handmade, replicated doors and frames to cabinets that were previously open.
• Lastly, we ‘extended’ another wall unit down to worktop level to create a hideaway for the toaster.

All of the new cabinets have been fitted with replicated doors, matching panelling, cornice, skirting and framework. Everything has been hand made as it is no longer available.

Now, all of the new additions fit so seamlessly, it actually looks like we’ve just painted the kitchen and fitted new k***s, which despite all of the work, actually makes me really happy. The sign of great carpentry and a job well done.

Thank you to our lovely clients for their patience, it’s been a slow process as so many parts had to be made from scratch, but look at it now.

PLEASE READ 🙏

Janine was one of my very first customers.

I painted this chair for her in 2014, it was also my first commission.

She was a lovely lady, full of sunshine, and at only 51, leaves a still young family and husband, who is a self-employed tree surgeon.

Please help if you can. Every donation, however small, will help the family navigate such a devastating and emotional time.

Thank you
