Another ceiling repair completed this morning in Basingstoke.

The ceiling had become bowed and partially detached from the joists above due to a historic leak. We removed all damaged plasterboard back to a sound surface, installed new 12.5mm plasterboard, and reinforced all joints with scrim tape to minimise the risk of cracking.

After applying a coat of Pink Plasterers Blend SBR, we finished the repair with two coats of Multi-Finish plaster, leaving a smooth, seamless finish ready for decoration once dry. ✔️

Today’s project was repairing a ceiling after a previous plastering attempt had failed due to poor preparation.

One of the biggest mistakes when plastering over existing finishes is skipping the correct prep work. Surfaces need to be properly sealed, bonded, and checked before any plaster goes on otherwise cracking, peeling, or failure is almost guaranteed.

Preparation is just as important as the finish itself.
