The sun was setting in the west & the birds were singing.
I’ve just started using the Merlin App to help me identify the bird song.

Tonight we heard a kestrel, a wren, robins, blackbirds, bluetits & a common reed warbler.

There are some lovely plants for sale at Mere Sands Wood Wildlife Trust near Rufford.

Beautiful, shady walks around the reserve are perfect for some respite from the heat.

Butterflies are in abundance & there’s a varied cacophony of bird sounds as you explore the woodland paths 💚

We’ve restocked the plant display at Brockholes Wildlife Trust this morning.
There’s lots of plants to choose from for a wide range of soil conditions & aspects.

All the plants are grown & potted on in peat free compost & the majority of them are very attractive to bees 🐝 & other pollinators.

A generous percentage of the sales goes to the work of the trust 💚

The rain was very welcome earlier in the week, the wind less so, but the borders are holding up quite well considering the extremes of weather they’ve experienced these last few weeks 💚

🩷 Lythrum Blush which is perfect for wet, clay soil. The bees love the pink spires of flowers.

💜 The lilac/pink Veronicastrum in the background is a real bee magnet.
Hemerocallis Sammy Russell in the foreground which tolerates very wet conditions in winter & summer drought

I love this campanula! It’s called Campanula glomerata ‘Caroline’
It grows well in full sun or partial shade in most soils.

The flowers form a spherical ball, & the lilac-pink petals are beautifully edged with a darker shade of pink. 💜🩷


In 2013 it was given the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
They stated “It has masses of flower borne very well above foliage. Good, erect, stiff stems”
