These are reclaimed Scottish granite setts (sometimes called “causey stanes” in Scots), quarried from the famous pink/red granite formations around Aberdeen — hence why the city is nicknamed the Granite City.
What You’re Looking At
The stones show the classic characteristics of Aberdeenshire granite — a warm pinkish-red to grey colouring with feldspar, quartz, and mica crystalline flecks visible on the surface. They’re roughly cube-shaped, hand-dressed or machine-cut, typically around 100×100×100mm to 150×100×100mm. The weathered, slightly rough texture comes from decades (sometimes over a century) of foot and vehicle traffic on Aberdeen’s historic streets.
