FIFTY of the 93 planned varieties of sweet peas are now sown, and twenty are up and growing. I have timed this perfectly because he is away for nine days, which is exactly the right amount of time for the seeds to germinate and to be thrown out into the cold. He’ll never know… Although I might be quite hungry by the time he gets back.

After the year that was 2024, we’re absolutely having a NYE at home. This time last year, I was expecting to retire as a psychologist. This time this year, I’m back full time working with babies and their families and balancing that with some incredible opportunities and writing projects. 2025 is shaping up to be just as exciting and wild and full of wonderful partnerships and collaborations. All of which means… an early night tonight. Happy New Year from all at Malus Farm.

A week in the life.
1. Endless drying today, because it rained like it was the end of the world.
2. Surprise snowfall on the thatch.
3. & springs of Prunus × subhirtella ‘Autumnalis Rosea’. Ink comes highly recommended.
4. Abelia grandiflora has been my flower of the season, and it’s still looking incredible touched with frost.
5. For all the people who messaged me after my last reel and who didn’t know what a Defender is, could I introduce you to Margot? Saved the day in the snow, and again in today’s floods when all of the roads out of the village became impassable to lesser cars.
6. Sweet pea bundles now in the Christmas shop for Gather members. First ones to the post office first thing tomorrow.
