Is your house feeling like a sauna even though the heating is supposedly "off"? You aren’t alone. It’s a common summer headache, but before you start eyeing a brand-new boiler, it’s usually down to one of two simple culprits.

1. The "Diverter Valve" is Stuck on a Combi boiler🛠️
This is the most common reason. Your boiler has a little part called a diverter valve that switches the flow of hot water between your taps and your radiators.
Over the summer, when the heating isn't used often, this valve can get "stiff" or stuck or fail completely. When you turn on the tap for a hot shower, some of that heat "leaks" into the heating circuit, sending unwanted warmth to your radiators.
2. Conventional boiler with a hot water cylinder 🌡️
In conventional systems, hot water intended for your cylinder can start to go to the radiators due to a faulty or stuck 2 or 3 port valve.

Installing a hose union bib c**k, (to me and you that’s an outside tap with a hose connector).

It might look like a simple "drill-and-fill" job, but doing it to UK Water Regulations requires more than just a wrench. A "DIY" approach often misses the critical safety features that protects your home’s drinking water.

Here’s the technical breakdown of how we handle a professional installation:

1. The Check Valve (Non-Return Valve)
This is the most important component. Under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, any external tap must have a double check valve.
• Why? It prevents "back-siphonage." If there’s a pressure drop in the main line while your hose is sitting in a pool or bucket, the valve ensures dirty garden water isn't sucked back into your kitchen tap.
