Planning Permission Granted in Spaxton!

We’re delighted to announce that we have successfully secured full planning permission for the transformation of this property near Spaxton — a carefully considered renovation and extension of a 1930s bungalow into a sustainable, fully accessible family home.

This has been a truly rewarding project to be part of, centred around creating a home that supports lifelong accessibility and independence for a young wheelchair user, while enhancing the character of the existing property and its rural setting.

The approved scheme includes:
-A high-quality rear extension, designed to sit comfortably alongside the existing bungalow
-A generous open-plan living space for inclusive family life
- Fully accessible design throughout, including level thresholds and specialist facilities
- Sustainable upgrades including air source heating and solar PV
- A sensitive loft conversion to support the family’s future needs

Over Stowey Parish Council commented... "The plans represent a significant improvement to the existing dwelling, both in
terms of design quality and overall functionality. The proposed changes appear well balanced and proportionate, enhancing the character of the property while remaining sensitive to the surrounding area. The inclusion of sustainable elements within the design, demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, which should be encouraged in developments of this nature."

We’re proud to see this project move forward — delivering thoughtful, policy-compliant design that balances sustainability, accessibility, and architectural quality.

A huge thank you to our fantastic clients for trusting us with such an important brief, and to Somerset Council Area North for their positive engagement throughout the process.

🛠️ Something a little different…

We were recently approached to assist with a truly special project — the careful disassembly of a rare World War II American Robins Hangar, one of only three remaining in the UK.

Originally located at RAF Westonzoyland, the hangar played a vital role in supporting the American Paratrooper Advance Mission to Normandy on D-Day. After the war, it was acquired by Pollards Builders (est. 1866) and relocated to their Monmouth Street headquarters in Bridgwater for use as a material storage building.

Working alongside Westonzoyland Aviation Museum, re:DSGN Ltd was proud to create a full 3D model of the hangar, identify its original component pieces, and develop a precise numbering schedule to guide its careful disassembly and eventual re-erection.

The hangar is now destined for Middlezoy Aerodrome, where the Hutchings family hosts the annual WARAG event — keeping the legacy of WWII aviation alive.

An incredible piece of history, and an honour to help ensure its future. ✈️🇺🇸

🏡 Another Project Nearing Completion!
We’re excited to share a sneak peek of our latest renovation in North Petherton — a full transformation of the main kitchen and dining area in this beautiful Victorian detached home.

The original layout featured a small kitchen window and a later side extension with views limited to the boundary. With a modest single-storey rear extension, we've completely reimagined the space into an open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting area — now filled with natural light and generous views of the rear garden.

Some standout features include:
✨ A large picture window with an internal seat, framed in striking CorTen steel
✨ Black-stained thermowood cladding wrapping the extension
✨ A sleek black aluminium glazing system
✨ Re-cladding and insulating the existing two-storey side extension (which had some of the worst brickwork we've ever seen!)

Just a few finishing touches to go, and then we’ll be capturing final portfolio shots 📸 — stay tuned!

Contractors are putting the finishing touches on a small but impactful transformation we designed in Hatch Beauchamp. By extending the kitchen and dining area into an open-plan, lean-to extension with a home office at the end, we’ve created a spacious, family-friendly area that opens up to the garden. The project also includes updated fascias and guttering on the main house, along with new render applied to replace the weathered plywood bay detail at the front.

If you’d like to achieve a similar transformation for your property, get in touch! We offer a full pre-construction design service, including Measured Surveys, Sketch Scheme Proposals, Planning, Building Control, and Design Health & Safety. We’ll guide you through the approval process and provide all the details you need to ensure contractors can offer a competitive and comprehensive construction quotation.

This will probably be the biggest transformation project we have been involved in. The original end of terrace Victorian property in Taunton was sadly gutted by a devastating fire. Thankfully no one was injured in the fire. The roof was hastily re-built and not very well and eventually it was put up for sale. Developer clients of ours took on the challenge of returning this to as new condition, no easy task when current regulations require you to up the levels of insulation on all surfaces as it had lost all its original plaster, ceilings and floors.

One of the benefits of the damage was the ability to completely re-imagine the layout and so we have been able to create a modern, open plan downstairs layout, 3 first floor bedrooms and a bathroom and an additional fourth bedroom in the loft.

The house already had an annexe at the end of the garden, now freshly decorated and the whole lot is on the market with Greenslade Taylor Hunt.

We had the pleasure of checking out a small project of ours in St Peter Port, Guernsey this weekend. Originally obtaining planning consent for the redevelopment of an art studio for Charlotte Keates Art we then worked alongside to help design and oversee fabrication of a bespoke steel staircase and hand rails to the first floor terrace here in the South West, completely flat pack for transport and assembly on the Island. Finishes were chosen for durability in the coastal location with hot dip galvanising with acid etch finish, stainless steel bolts and stainless steel tensioned wire rope details. This is the first time we have seen it all installed with the rest of landscape details almost complete.

If you have small bespoke design projects in mind including steel work we have experience of various techniques and can prepare designs for laser or water jet cutting, fabrication and assembly on site.

Jason has been busy the past few weekends with paving at the back of his 1960's renovation in North Petherton. These granite slabs are extremely hard wearing, slip resistant and easy to maintain. The colours compliment the basalt grey Cortizo sliding doors. Oak vertical sleepers hold back the landscaping. Just the steps to finish off here and jointing to do.

A visit to a previously completed development property in North Newton this morning. The cladding has weathered in nicely and the work to retain the magnolia tree in the garden including significant retaining wall structures was well worth the effort!
