Manchester City… or should it now be Manchester Pirates? 🏴‍☠️⚽

No matter what side of football you support, one thing is hard to deny: Manchester City have played some unbelievable football over the last decade. Fast, fearless, relentless. Haaland up front. Pep at the wheel like some footballing pirate captain - “Bluebeard” leading another attack on the league.

And maybe that’s why the pirate comparison fits so well.

Pirates weren’t exactly supposed to rule the seas… but everyone watched the films anyway. They were controversial, feared, successful - and impossible to ignore.

That’s where football finds itself now with over 100 charges hanging over City. Not proven guilty. Not cleared either.

At some point football needs an ending to this story.

Either: clear them, or charge them.

But it can’t just drift on forever while the whole game waits.

Because while rivals will say City’s spending changed football unfairly, others will admit the Premier League era under Pep has also produced some of the best football many of us have ever watched.

Maybe that’s the uncomfortable truth of it all: football benefited from the spectacle… even while questioning the rules behind it.
