As another beautiful spring day draws to a close, it would be good to reflect on what the "Lungs Of The Earth do for mankind, wildlife and the diversity of this still Beautiful Planet.

International Forest Day is a day that is close to my heart as Arboriculture/Silviculture is my favorite amongst the Conservation Sciences and is also poignant as I'm currently studying an MSc in Forestry at Bangor University.

... What does the letters Mcihort mean, after my name?

I have been asked a few times, what does Mcihort stand for after my surname?
Mcihort means that I'm a
Member of the Institute of Chartered Horticulturist.

I also have TechArborA which is, I'm a Technician member of the Arboriculture Association

MSocAg which is, Member of The Society of Agriculture, and

A - ISEP which means Associate of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Practitioner's

So, that is technically

I'm not doing this out of Egotism and being Elitist, as I've been viciously accused of previously, I find that, joining these Chartership organizations is a necessary move in order for me to be successful in a highly technical and professional industry which I'm now moving into. And some of these memberships ( there are a few more that I haven't mentioned) are a part of my MSc studies, in which, they are free Student/Affiliate Memberships.

...And Now For Something Completely Different...

As some of you may know, I'm a Horticulturist that does things out of the ordinary, and one of those is, I'm transitioning into the Ecology/Environmental Management sector and as such I have just been asked to act as an Ecological Clerk of Works for an upcoming Construction Site.

What is an Ecological Clerk of Works?

An Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) is a specialist environmental professional whose primary role is to ensure that construction or development projects comply with ecological and environmental legislation, planning conditions, and best practices. They act as a liaison between ecological recommendations and on-site construction activities, ensuring that biodiversity and protected species are safeguarded during works.

And this is pretty much what I will be concentrating on from this moment onwards, in particular, Ecology/Environmental Management within the context of Forestry and Woodland Management.

🧠 Summary
The Ecological Clerk of Works is a crucial on-the-ground role in ensuring environmentally responsible development. They take ecological plans and make them work in practice, acting as an environmental safeguard during construction activities. Their position lies at the intersection of ecology, construction, and environmental compliance.

....Big Changes Coming Up...

I haven't posted on here that much lately.
As I am currently not in business due to a huge learning and accreditation drive, I have however been busy on a lot of courses and SGA Commercial Ltd is now an aproved partner with the Centre Of Excellance learning portal and as well as a Corporate Member of the Forestry Industry Safety Accord ( FISA) the Forestry Contractors Association ( FCA) I am now a Corporate Member of the very prestigious Confederation of Foresters ( ConFor)

With these memberships, I have put SGA Commercial Ltd in a commanding position to gain the latest info, news and certifications etc within the Forestry/Woodland Management Industries.

So, as I have yet to do any worthwhile contracts, I have been very busy in getting my processes and infrastructure on point and ready for as soon as I get Fully Operational!

Career Progression For SGA Commercial Ltd.

So, not a lot has gone on recently with Actual Work posts, though I have been busy getting acreditations etc as I'm moving full steam ahead with Woodland Management and Forestry.

As well as the FISA Membership ( Which I will be renewing soon) I'm now a member of the very prestigious Confederation of Foresters ( Confor) and the Forestry Contractors Association.
All of these Memberships will keep me in good stead and keep me updated with the latest goings on in the Forestry and Woodland Management industry.
