This evening was just what I needed... a slow exhale.

At Tawny Studios, I run small, unhurried outdoor sessions centred around nature immersion, slow looking and watercolour painting - for people who are craving a quieter way to spend time outside and reconnect with the natural world. 🌎🌿🌀

These are calm, gentle sessions held in beautiful outdoor spaces, focused on tuning back into the landscape around us...noticing, breathing, observing and then expressing what we find through paint, without pressure or expectation of a “finished piece.”

Sessions I offer include:

• Solo adult sessions and small intimate groups
• Restorative half days for people experiencing stress, burnout, or disconnection
• Parent/carer reset sessions
• Seasonal one day immersions
• Accessible, beginner friendly painting experiences

What a session might include:
• Guided sensory nature walks and quiet observation
• Mindful sitting and slow noticing practices
• Watercolour painting inspired by what you find around you
• Simple nature journalling and sketch prompts
• Seasonal plant connection and gentle foraging walks
• Stillness and breathwork in natural surroundings
• Gentle conversation around a flask of something warm

The heart of it is simple...a space to slow down and remember what it feels like to truly be outside.

If something like this calls to you, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to comment below or send me a message. 🍂

Two days, two brushes, one slow exhale. ✨

This week held two painting sessions that couldn’t have felt more different and yet both arrived as the same kind of gift...an invitation to stop, soften and really see.

🌿 Monday at the Rollright Stones
Before a brush was even lifted, we simply arrived and allowed a full immersion into nature. We listened, noticed and truly felt what the light was doing to the long grass, how the wind moved through it like something with a pulse. Sensory meditations, slow invitations to settle into the body and the place and then, gently, paint as a continuation of that noticing. A way of just being with nature. A reminder that creativity and connection are often the same gesture.

🎨 Session 2 of our Watercolour course on Tuesday at - landscapes and breathing out
After a full week, sitting down with water and pigment felt like a long exhale. We explored the practise of landscape painting - sky, distance, foreground, the way light behaves differently on things near and far. Slowly learning this beautiful medium of watercolour!

There is something quietly grounding about painting the landscape you live within. It makes you look at it more tenderly. You start to notice the layers.

Two sessions. Two ways of being with nature and paint. Both a little like coming home. 🌱

What a Tawny Studios gathering looks like... 🌳

We begin outside. 🍃 Before a single brush is picked up, there’s time to arrive into the space, to notice what’s growing, what’s shifting in the light and what the season is doing. This is the foundation of everything we do...genuine connection with the natural world.

From there come gentle invitations to deepen that connection, perhaps a moment of stillness beside something living, a slow walk with soft attention, a prompt to look closer at a leaf or a stem or the way the sky sits behind the treeline. Nothing is forced. These are offerings, not instructions. 🌱

Then comes the painting and this is where something quietly remarkable tends to happen. Watercolour becomes a way of seeing more fully, of staying with a thing long enough to truly take it in. It’s less about the finished piece... You’re not trying to replicate nature perfectly you’re in conversation with it.
Throughout, the guidance is gentle and unhurried. Techniques are introduced with care and there’s always support for those picking up a brush for the very first time. Beginners are not just welcome here, this space is genuinely made for them. No experience is needed, only a little willingness. 🫶

And woven through all of it is the warmth of new people finding each other. Strangers who arrived a little unsure, leaving as something closer to community, connected by the shared experience of slowing down, making something and spending time in the kind of company that feels genuinely nourishing.

I'd love to see you there 🌿

Did you know that simply being amongst the trees is changing your body on a cellular level?

I’m currently studying in Forest Therapy and one of the things that has genuinely stopped me in my tracks is learning about Phytoncides which are the natural compounds that trees and plants release into the air as part of their own immune defence. When we breathe them in, something remarkable happens to us too.

🌿 Immune system boost - Phytoncides increase the activity of our white blood cells that fight infection and even tumour cells. Studies show a single forest walk can elevate this for up to 30 days.

🌿 Cortisol reduction - time in woodland environments brings the body out of fight or flight and into genuine rest.

🌿 Lower blood pressure & heart rate - blood pressure drops. The heart slows. The body softens.

🌿 Better sleep - reduced cortisol and nervous system regulation mean deeper, more restorative sleep after time outdoors.

🌿 Improved mood & reduced anxiety - nature exposure increases serotonin and reduces rumination.

And then there’s what happens when you add a paintbrush to all of that. Painting in nature layers something extra onto every one of those benefits...

🎨 Deepened presence - to paint something, you have to truly look at it. You slow down in a way that even a walk doesn’t always achieve.

🎨 Flow state - It’s a form of active meditation.

🎨 Emotional processing - colour, mark making and composition give feelings somewhere to go.

🎨 Confidence and play - making art outdoors, away from expectations, reawakens a sense of curiosity.

🎨 A lasting memory - you leave with something made by your own hands, in a place that mattered to you. That’s not nothing. That’s everything.

This is what Tawny Studios is built around.

Brushstrokes in the Wild 🌿 a chance to connect with nature and your creativity, let the wild in...

The flowers are opening. The trees are whispering. Beltane is here and the world is absolutely alive.
These two hour painting workshops are your invitation to step outside, slow down and let nature do what she does best...inspire you completely.
We paint under trees. Among flowers. Moving gently, noticing, connecting. No walls, no pressure, just you and the wild beauty of May and June in full, glorious bloom.

If a full retreat or four week course feels like too big a leap right now, these tasters are made for you. Dip a toe in. See how it feels to hold a brush in the open air and simply be somewhere beautiful.
Beginners more than welcome. Actually, beginners especially welcome.

🌍✨ Happy Earth Day, dear ones.

Today isn’t just a date on a calendar. It’s a remembering.
A remembering that we are of this Earth and not separate from it, not observers of it, but woven into it. The same intelligence that unfurls a fern frond, that coaxes the first hawthorn blossom from a bare branch, that turns leaf litter slowly, quietly back into soil… that same intelligence lives inside you.
We don’t go into nature to visit. We go to return.

🌿 I am currently completely my Forest Therapy Practitioner course (very exciting stuff!) in our group session we often talk about the more than human world as a mirror. The trees aren’t backdrop, they’re beings. When you slow down enough to notice the way lichen maps itself across stone or the particular green of new beech leaves held up to April light… something in you exhales. Something unclenches. Your nervous system remembers what it already knew.

This is why I paint outside. Not just to capture nature...but to be witnessed by it. To sit with a patch of Earth long enough that it starts to feel like conversation.
That’s the medicine.

🎨 Today, wherever you are, slow down. Get outside if you can. Let your feet touch actual ground. Notice one small wonder, maybe a w**d pushing through pavement, a cloud moving faster than you expected or just the colours around you.
You don’t need a brush to do this. You just need to be present.

And if you want to come paint on the land with me this season, the doors are open 🌸

What if the antidote to a busy mind was simply a paintbrush and the natural world?

My Brushstrokes in the Wild four week watercolour course starts again in May and with it, a chance to come back to something slower. Each week we move through nature’s palette together...leaf and lichen, bark and bloom, the quiet details that most days we walk straight past. Building both skill and a deeper sense of belonging to the land.

New to painting? Start with a taster session. One session, no commitment, just the quiet joy of making something by hand.

Step outside, slow down and create with me...

This May and June I'll be hosting a series of beginner friendly, nature lead painting sessions in some of my favourite outdoor spaces - from peaceful woodlands and open fields to quiet, tucked away corners filled with Wild beauty.

Each session is an invitation to pause.
To breathe.
To notice the small, often overlooked details...

Because all inspiration comes from nature and when we allow ourselves to truly connect with Her, creativity flows with so much more ease.

Together we will spend a couple of gentle hours outside exploring watercolour painting through observation, intuition and simple guided techniques. No pressure, no expectations, just space to create, connect and be.

Whether you join me on a soft, slow morning or warm afternoon or a golden evening session, each one will hold its own kind of magic. Perfect if you're curious about my work but not quite ready to commit to a full course or retreat come and dip your toes in. 🌿

✨10 dates across May and June
✨A mix of weekday, weekend daytime and evening sessions
