I treated myself to a new border fork from Burgon & Ball
Unlike a lot of forks and spades, the wooden handle is reinforced where it meets the metal fork which helps it to achieve a breaking strain of 90kg (British Standard is 40kg).

Plantain can make a real mess of lawns and paddocks. Their waxy, low slung leaves spread out and suffocate the grass below. And it’s a perennial, so it’ll be back every year! But apparently a poultice of the leaves can be applied to wounds, stings and sores to facilitate healing and prevent infection. And look at the flowers! So, do you love or loathe plantain?

Who doesn’t love the sweet pea. Once you’ve raised some plants from seed you should be able to enjoy years of enjoyment via the miracle of self-seeding. Cut blooms throughout the season for display indoors, and then near the end of the season leave the remaining flowers to set seed.
