We’re looking forward to getting out onto the nursery this Friday in support of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
Instead of worrying about ‘Blue Monday’ let us look forward to drawing the working week to an end by supporting this great cause.

Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey. Every year, hundreds of thousands of nature lovers like you take part, helping to build a picture of how garden birds are faring.

We are frequently asked questions about Yellow Rattle and its role in a native wildflower meadow. Yellow Rattle is an annual plant that helps to establish a wildflower meadow. It is a semi-parasitic wildflower species and feeds on grasses which paves the way for other wildflower species to fill in the space where the grasses once were.

Yellow Rattle seed requires an over-winter chill to germinate. This is why we recommend any mix that contains Yellow Rattle to be sown in autumn, so that the seeds can germinate in the spring.

Whilst gardeners are preparing for the winter months with thoughts of protecting their cultivated plants, this is not the case with native wildflower and wetland species.
Not only are native plants a stunning tapestry across the UK, they are also easy to care for. Unscathed by our recent icy conditions, native species are both frost and drought hardy and should be a thoughtful consideration for all gardens and green spaces.

As we amble through Autumns rusty pallet, falling temperatures bring wonderous whites to our hardy native wildflowers.
Soon they become dormant to weather the winter lows, silently sheltering small creatures and providing food for little foragers.

Did you know at British Flora we grow our native wildflower plants in 65,110 and 230 cubic centimetre plugs, producing significantly larger root systems than many of our competitors.
Larger root systems allow plants to establish quicker and reduces the risk of them being washed away during wet spells of weather.
Currently we have over 140 species in stock, contact 0330 0022077 for more information or visit our website www.britishflora.co.uk.
