Before hiring a tree surgeon or arborist, it’s really important to check their qualifications and insurance.

Tree work is skilled, technical, and potentially dangerous. Proper training isn’t just about doing a good job—it’s about keeping people, property, and the trees themselves safe.

If someone isn’t appropriately qualified, there’s a strong chance their insurance may not fully cover the type of work they’re undertaking. That can leave homeowners at risk if something goes wrong.

Any reputable arborist will be happy to provide proof of qualifications and insurance—it’s something we always encourage customers to ask for, and we’re always happy to show our paperwork.

If you’re unsure where to start, we’d recommend choosing from established, qualified local companies with a solid reputation- always ask to see proof of qualifications and insurance.

Decent sized dead Monkey Puzzle taken down today, this had been dead over four years and had become a danger. Original audio as a treat for your ears. Blessed Friday folks ✌️

Meet Winnie Omelette Anderson — the newest (and tiniest) member of Team Cedarwood!
She won’t be out on the trees dragging branches just yet… she’s still working hard toward her qualifications.
For now, she’s handling all the important admin duties: answering emails, taking calls, and supervising biscuit breaks.

Storm Amy has already left her mark in some areas. If you’ve noticed any damage, you know where to find us! 🌬️
A quick reminder — always make sure your arborist is fully qualified and insured (don’t be afraid to ask for proof!).

Today we had to remove a beautiful beech tree in Thornton, one we’ve been caring for over 17 years. This was not a decision taken lightly — after inspections with the council, it was clear the tree posed a danger to the public. It had Ganoderma, a root-rotting fungus that decays a tree from the inside out.

We know how loved this tree was, and while most people were kind and understanding, we did face some irate reactions from passersby. We’re always happy to explain our work, but please remember — we would never remove a tree like this for no reason. Respect goes both ways, and we ask to be spoken to as you’d wish to be in your own work.

Photos of fungus in the comments.

This tree will be deeply missed. 🌿

Just a quick update 💛
If you’re waiting on a call or message from us, you should hear from us by the end of today. If we’ve accidentally missed you, please do give us a nudge!

Also — a huge thank you for all the kind messages and well wishes for Nick. He’s a lot better now, though not quite 100% yet, as he’s due to have some dental treatment next week. It’s meant the world to us knowing how many of you were thinking of him.

Thank you again for your patience and support — we really do appreciate every one of you.

Hey everyone ❤️
Just a quick update — if you’ve got a booking with us next week, there’s a good chance we’ll need to reschedule. Nick’s really unwell at the moment, and we need to prioritise his health. Any jobs still waiting to be priced up will be sorted next week — we’re just a bit behind. We will keep you all updated.

Thanks so much for your patience and for sticking with us — you literally keep a roof over our kids’ heads and food in their bellies, and we never take that for granted 🙏

Also, while we’re here — slightly more personal note:
Nick’s been told he needs some emergency dental work, but because of past radiotherapy treatment, there’s a risk of something called osteoradionecrosis (basically bone damage caused by radiation). We’ve done the Googling, but if any of you are radiotherapy warriors or know someone who’s been through this and could share their experience, we’d massively appreciate it. Stats, outcomes, stories — anything really.

Thanks again for all the love and support — it means the world to our little crew 💛
