Back from another long day setting out and planting at Capel Manor College, Mottingham. Just a teaser photo tonight. I’m going to share the plant that really makes my heart sing, which is Rosa odorata x mutabilis. As it spreads its wings it’s going to soften the gabions and offer so much interest.

A great visit last night with the National Garden Scheme to Lambeth Palace — the Archbishops garden space tucked away behind the palace historic walls.

I had the most brilliant golden hour visit with the ‘Gardeners get together’ last night at it’s fair to say it was like being a kid in a sweet shop. Thank you for an amazing evening

Wildlife design phase of a garden nearing completion , where sustainability, repurposing and biodiversity come first. Incorporating a natural and stream, shaded woodland retreat under the apple tree, reclaimed structures turned into meaningful features, supported by wildlife habitats and pollinator friendly plants.

A productive day defining the stream as it translations into the pond, with carefully positioned sandstone defining the edges and creating a naturalistic flow. Subtle basin features have been integrated to retain water during lower flow periods, supporting both structure and habitat value. Plants stowed and ready to be placed to create further shelter. Already, the space is attracting bird life, with plenty stopping by for a dip.

Great to be back after an inspiring meet-up with Sarah Morgan Garden Designer and the team at Nursery, alongside Andy from Haywood Landscapes.
We had some really valuable advice on how to streamline the journey from garden design through to installation — always great to gather ideas with people who care about doing things well.
We finished with a behind-the-scenes tour of the nursery, taking a closer look at the work that goes into producing strong, healthy plants.

A dead hedge is a simple, beautiful way to turn “garden waste” into something that truly benefits wildlife. By placing and weaving branches between sturdy stakes, you create a sustainable, habitat-rich feature that also adds wonderful natural texture to the landscape.
