Trying out a new way of doing tree inspections!

Drones are a fantastic way of quickly checking over a tree, especially during the nesting season. However, to do this legitimately in the UK, you need two licences: a flyer's licence and an operator's licence. These are both issued by the CAA.

Once you have these, it's a fun way to check out a tree! Today I was testing it out and ensuring I could see fungal growth, dead branches and nests. While a drone does have its limitations, especially in particularly dense trees, it's another useful tool when checking tree health.

It also records video for the record and can be used to quickly check height.

A little reduction today! The purpose was to increase the light getting to a greenhouse nearby and the house as well, as the birch was getting too bushy. I removed one major limb and then about A dozen side limbs to decrease the number branches and increase the amount of light. As a result, the birch maintains its shape while keeping the height and providing a small amount of shade as needed over the coming months.

And despite a relatively grotty start to the day, it's become rather pleasant. So if you are thinking that your tree is in the way, give me a call to discuss your options or send a WhatsApp: 07866 726 863

What a difference a day makes! Working with the Devon Railway Centre to clear this area for additional parking when they open on March 28. Underneath all this were:

• 2 sofas
• 8 tyres
• An inflatable hot tub
• 2 TVs
• 2 freezer drawers
• A rear bumper
• Various dog p**p bags with a brown filling
• Half a dumpy bag's worth of bottles, cans and other debris.

Picked up all of that for removal, and took down a number of trees that had grown up since it was last properly maintained. A big job but a great day for it!

So if you're looking to get a similar job done, give me a call on 07866 726 863.

Took down a large willow today! This involved climbing, a winch and a lot of careful planning — and the result is a lot of wood nicely on the ground, avoiding the houses and gardens around it.

It was good fun, too!

A nice little before and after photo! The main aim was to remove all the sycamore on the sheer slope, along with some of the wild clematis that had tangled up in it over the years. Was good fun with the climbing gear!

Obligatory plug: If you need a well qualified and insured tree surgeon, call, message or WhatsApp me at 07866 726 863

After a busy day cutting down and sorting out this walnut tree I thought I would share how all the different parts are going to be used!

The larger lengths will be sent to a local apprentice furniture maker. While they are not the biggest, they provide a good opportunity to practice.

The larger rounds will go to some wood turners. These will hopefully make a variety of items such as bowls.

Then you have the smaller lengths and rounds. These will end up as firewood.

Finally, the chip is going to a local school for their allotment. It will line the paths around the allotment.

Ideally, nothing gets wasted when a tree is removed.

So if you need qualified (and insured) tree removal services, give me a call at 07866 726 863. Or send me a message on WhatsApp or Facebook.

A great week in Barbrook, just outside Lynton! 11 conifers brought down safely, brashed up and the remains chipped or sent off as firewood. The result: the client gets a lot more light into their property, and there's no risk of the trees falling onto their home.

If you need trees reduced or removed, give me a call, text or WhatsApp, or send me a direct message on Facebook: 07866 726 863.

Spent three days in the lovely village of Brushford taking this 50 year old tree down and turning it into firewood/chip. Because it was so close to the fence on one side and a house on the other, I had to climb it and section it out — after removing most of the branches, of course. The result was about 2.5 cubic meters of firewood and a lot of chip!

If you need a tree pruned, trimmed or removed, give me a call on 07866 726863 or send me a message through Facebook.
