Come and join community herbalist and medical herbalist student Mariam Mohamed for our next making herbal winter remedies workshop.
We are really into the cold/flu season with so many bugs going around. At home we have been using our herbal allies like elderflower, yarrow, ginger and elderberry and my trusty chest rub to help us through fevers, congestion and sniffles. In this upcoming workshop
I will be sharing more about these incredible plants and how they can support us with a particular focus on respiratory health.
Come and learn how to use herbs to support yourself, friends and family and make your own winter remedies to take home.
🍡 Learn how to blend immune and respiratory supporting herbs into healing teas and steams
πŸƒ Learn how to make a decongestant chest rub with oils, essential oils and beeswax
🌟 Take home your own remedies and informative handouts with recipes

We're excited to be collaborating with to offer two winter herbal remedies workshops in Buckfastleigh. Come along and build your winter apothecary!
NB booking links posted below

The first workshop, on Sunday 16th November, will be making two traditional winter remedies, immune system boosting elderberry syrup and β€˜Fire Cider’, which is a traditional maceration of bug-busting herbs in apple cider vinegar. You will come away with a 200ml bottle of elderberry, thyme and ginger syrup, with the alternative option of a sugar-free glycerite, and also a large jar of 'Fire Cider' herbs infused in apple cider vinegar, ready to strain out in a few weeks. All materials and ingredients are included.

On the 14th December you will be making three traditional winter remedies. You will have the chance to blend your own winter tea, to make a blend of herbs for steam inhalation, and to make a decongestant chest rub, all to support your respiratory health this winter, with bags and jars of each to take home with you.

You will learn about the traditional and current uses of these winter remedies, be introduced to the herbs and how to safely use them, and be taught hands-on medicine making skills. We will be providing organic herbs that have been grown in the Wyse Worts and Radical Plant Folk herb gardens.

Samhain blessings! The season shifts, the nights draw in and decay sets in. This very spooky and weird fungus has been a garden resident on and off for the past few years, and has made a timely appearance as a Halloween decoration.

It's called red basket fungus, Clathrus rubber, and is a trype of stinkhorn. It emerges from an 'egg' and opens into a complex 'basket' covered in smelly gloop. They're saprophytic, so feed on rotting wood chip and leaves, or compost. They're apparently not common in the UK, but with some found in the South, so we're very honoured to be able to host them.

This week is perfect for seed saving! Lots of seeds are mature now and it's sunny and dry. We can tell when the seeds are mature as in most plants they easily pop out of the structure they're held in, sometimes with a bit of rubbing.

There's an amazing crop of Echinacea purpurea seeds this year, along with Hypericum perforatum, Althaea officinalis Achillea millefolium and more.

Such a lovely thing to be in the sun gathering for people to sow next year. Many are for .seeds , but also for myself and to share at workshops. 🌿
