Hello!

We are Robyn and Izzy, both residents of Eling, and we are running a project to regenerate an area of Eling that has become run-down and fly-tipped. The lane in question, which runs alongside Lexby Road near the Mill Cafe and Eling Experience, is frequently used by dog-walkers and by children from the infant's school, but its current state has made it unsafe. We are on a mission to clear and replant this lane and make it a part of Totton that the community can be proud of.

We have already held a residents meeting and have gathered volunteers and support from residents, the school and Team Totton. We also have the support of local councillors and have been gathering all the advice we can get to make this project successful.

Our next steps are to obtain funding or resources for us to be able to re-gravel the lane to make it usable, and build planters along the edges which we can plant with low-maintenance planting. We are not able to get any council funding for this as it is an unadopted lane, so we are reaching out to the community and local businesses who might like to be involved. We are planning a community weekend in early June to get the area cleared and regenerated and to show what can be achieved when people work together.

We have seen the positive work you have done getting school children involved with gardening, and are getting in touch to ask you whether you would consider being involved in this community project, whether with a donation or resources. We would be more than happy to pop over to the allotment shop if you would like to have more of a chat about the project.

Thank you for your time and we look foward to speaking with you further.

Robyn and Izzy

All Members

There are a couple of updates for you & action ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM):

SHOP UPDATE
This year's new seeds, beans, peas and green manures are now in the Allotment Shop and will be on sale from Sunday 2 November 2025.

For those waiting, we have also received a delivery of Johnsons grass seed which will also be on sale.

BANKING UPDATE - AGM votable action

The Treasurer will be proposing that we remove the ability to accept cash early in 2026. It is in light of the following facts:
- the bank will be closing its Totton branch in the Summer 2026
- it takes significantly more time to process and is prone to human error
- by going cashless we will have a more streamlined operation at the counter, for all Members
to put it into prospective, currently cash makes up than less than 6% of our total takings and our Treasurer is not prepared to continue in this post, if this motion is rejected.

MEMBER ACTION NEEDED
- If you would like to vote either for this motion, or against, with the necessary reasoning please respond to me at [email protected] before the end of the year, or come in person to the AGM*.
- If you would like to stand on the Committee, or be considered as the Treasurer, again in the first instance, please reach out to me, so I can pass your details onto the Treasurer for a more detailed discussion.
*The AGM is on Wednesday, 14 January 2026 at the Three Scores Club, at 7:30pm.
