A new Atelier Architecture and Design project has been shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2024, in the Future Project Civic Category! We are excited to unveil our latest community-centric project, the Fisherman's Shack at Pilsworth Lake.

10 miles north of Manchester, designed to forge a deeper connection between the community and their natural surroundings. This project encapsulates the community's desire for social and environmental enrichment.

◘ Environmental Enrichment: A focus on enriching the environment, creating a harmonious balance between the built and natural worlds.

◘ Natural Regeneration: Promoting the regeneration of the site, encouraging a thriving ecosystem.

Join us in celebrating a project that not only enhances the social fabric of the community but also prioritises environmental sustainability. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative project.

Discover the allure of our latest project, designed to attract skiers, tourers, walkers, and mountain lovers year-round to Iceland’s unique landscapes. This architectural marvel seamlessly integrates with its surroundings and offers a captivating experience. Here’s what sets it apart:

> Path to Serenity: The cabin unfolds along a ramped path from the car park, settling into a rest area on a higher contour of the slope.

> Sun-Warmed Lounge & Rooftop Terrace: Enjoy the sun-warmed lounge or pass through a rocky fissure to reach the rooftop terrace, offering stunning views and relaxation.

> Materials Rooted in Place: Regional basalt, recycled concrete, and timber mixed with volcanic dust create a sensory experience deeply connected to Iceland's natural elements.

> Geothermal & Solar Advantages: Building along contours leverages geothermal benefits and reduces exposure to harsh elements while south-facing glazed surfaces enhance passive solar performance.

> Traditional Meets Modern: Concrete roofs covered with turf and basalt gravel echo traditional Icelandic methods, providing thermal mass benefits that keep interiors cool in summer and warm in winter.

> Interior Inspired by Nature: Raw basalt walls paired with copper pipe ribs emulate lava flows, serving as both aesthetic elements and space heaters. Geometric shapes and sharp angles also echo lava flows and Icelandic volcanoes.

Experience the fusion of innovative design and natural beauty. Stay tuned for more updates on this extraordinary project.
