A few harvest time pictures from the allotment.
We found out we have ethics approval for our project writing about how allotment users have benefitted from the shared plot and what we have created.

The plot's looking lovely after a lot of TLC by the patient/staff team! We brought home some mint and transplanted love-in-the-mist seedlings which had been taking over a bit and needed weeding out, for our own gardens or windowboxes.
(Don't worry; the mint is in a tub!)
Look at those overwintered broad beans!

Look at our huge melon! (It was a bit of an experiment, we only got the one, but we ate it straightaway and it was delicious).
Also we finally got one bean plant which has just started flowering, and we are hopeful the bees on the lavender may have visited it, perhaps we'll get a few beans before the first frosts?

We had a nice morning at the allotment today, chatting and watering, we had a lovely harvest of mint and oregano leaves, patty pan squashes, a courgette, cucumbers and an enormous cauliflower.

Maybe one of our last harvests on the harvest table at surgery this year. Pop in if you like it hot, the little purple chillis are not just decorative 😅

The harvest table at Clay Farm Surgery is overflowing with tomatoes and other goodies (they aren’t even all in the picture!)
Please go and pick up anything you would like. Homemade tomato sauce can be canned or frozen very well 😉

5 benefits of gardening for your health and wellbeing 👉

1: Better physical health through activity and exercise, strengthening your muscles to improve mobility.

2: Improvement to your mental health, with a real feeling of purpose and achievement whilst out in the fresh air.

3: Reduces feelings of isolation and exclusion by connecting with others and being in a group or with someone else.

4: Learning and gaining new skills to help you in your own garden and increase opportunities of employment as well as self-confidence.

5: Simply the enjoyment and good feeling you get from being surrounded by nature in the great outdoors.

A few words from one of our volunteers....

"Being at the allotment and doing abit of gardening has really lifted my spirits, and given me a productive activity that I feel a good sense of achievement after. I have learnt from others in the group about some of the plants which has helped me in the bits I do. Just being in the plot where the allotment is , is so nice... it's outdoors but in a peaceful spot."

It’s a very hot morning at the allotment. Even though we came early, brought iced coffee and wore we could only do a bit of tying up the heavy tomatoes and watering everything on the thirsty plot.

There’s a lot of today on the allotment.
We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and did a bit of weeding and tidying - and today that was about as much as we could muster the energy for. Sometimes it’s that way, we just didn’t have the spoons for more. So instead of harvest pictures, we hope you enjoy our purple pops of colour and feel the peaceful atmosphere through them.

Last Saturday we did a lot of tidying up on the allotment.
Weeds had taken over the patio and beds, the tomatoes were forming a jungle and needed thinking out, our sweet peas decided to show some pretty flowers, but needed help to find their stakes and some bean plants needed to be cleared out.
But we also sowed some dwarf French beans and had our first harvest of tomatoes this year. ☺️
