Pinus sylvestris (Scots Pine).The uk's only native species of pine! Given the chance, they can grow up to 35m in height and reach the grand old age of 700 years old.

Easily identifiable by its distinctive orange-brown scaly bark and fairly short bluish-green needles.

Maintenance and preservation of our native species is of vital importance for natural biodiversity and habitat.

A combination of Horse Chestnut Leaf-Mining Moth and root recession caused by Honey Fungus caused this lovely old Chestnut to die very suddenly a few years ago during a period of drought.

Unfortunately the only option was for its removal in the interest of safety.

Where dead trees are not in a public space, our recommendation is always to leave standing deadwood as it is fantastic for biodiversity and habitat creation.

Love this picture. Takes me back to the days of the primary school gym and climbing up the rope suspended from, what was called, "The Apparatus". As a six or seven year old I never knew what that meant. 😂 Little did I realise highly skilled people do this for a living.
