I’m looking for recommendations for a heating and hot water smart thermostat that is compatible with a Starlink router.
I normally fit Hive but the Starlink router in the customers house doesn’t have Ethernet ports.
I initially fitted a Drayton Wiser but it has been playing up by turning heating on randomly and my customer has lost confidence in it.
Any help would be appreciated 🙏

Living in a coastal environment can cause problems with your boiler. This Ariston in St Eval had a small leak underneath which John decided wasn’t economical to repair so decided on a new appliance.
When the old flue was removed, although it looked ok from the outside, the corrosion within the wall was evident. My screwdriver went straight through the rust.
This could have been very dangerous so please check yours as it’s something can get overlooked as a homeowner.
If a replacement boiler isn’t in your plans yet, sometimes the flue can be replaced.
I fitted a top of the range Worcester boiler with a 10 year warranty for piece of mind.

Very challenging job this week for a former British Gas customer of mine, replacing an ancient, troublesome Vokera boiler in a loft and relocating a new Worcester Greenstar 4000 to a WC.

Adding a Worcester system filter means this boiler is now under warranty for 8 years so a happy customer with peace of mind.

After a long time with tepid water, I think Nigel was running the bath before I’d driven away!

**WARNING, BOILER PRICES ARE RISING**

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and managed to catch up with all your loved ones.

I had an email from a boiler supplier this morning stating that due to supply chain issues globally, prices are rising in February and they are struggling to keep up with demand.
If you are thinking of replacing your appliance, instead of waiting until the summer when everyone else will, now would be the perfect time ahead of the rest of the cold weather. Most boiler changes take only a day of two so there’s minimal disruption.

After working for a large corporation for 30 years where Christmas working was an obligation sometimes not welcome, it’s nice to be able to wind down and have some time off-or so I thought!

Gas boilers don’t care if it’s Christmas or not, in fact they are more likely to breakdown over this time of year due to the excessive workload of having families all home together keeping cosy.

If you need any help, don’t worry, my phone is always on so if you call, leave a message and I’ll get to you asap to take a look and hopefully repair any misbehaving appliances.

The cold weather is starting to bite now and with December round the corner that’s no surprise.
Your boiler will be working harder than ever to get your house up to temperature which makes it more likely for any problems that have been building up to appear, just when you need the heat the most, especially with a house full of guests over the Christmas holidays.
Don’t leave small issues until they get worse, it’ll only add to the cost, inconvenience and possible safety risk too.
