This week it was time to dead head the lilac. I wish they lasted longer as the perfume is delicious and they look stunning.
When deadheading it’s important to only cut back to where you see a cluster of leaves UNLESS you are reshaping the tree.
Lilac flower on the previous years growth so if you chop thst off you miss flowers the following year.
If you need to drastically reduce the tree you either bite the bullet and accept you won’t have flowers the following year OR you can cut a third of the branches so you still get two thirds with flowers, then do another third the following year and so forth.
