Great fun today on a very large Douglas Fir removal causing major subsidence issues. The waste removed was a down a very long and windy path

Carried out to perfection with Crown maintenance

Today we carried out maintenance on these Leylandii conifers. Regular annual trimming is key to keeping them healthy, tidy, and under control.

We’ve created a clean, level finish today, and we’ll be back after the growing season to refine it further and achieve a tighter, sharper top.

If your conifers are getting out of hand, now’s the time to get them sorted.

Tree Removal – Large Mature Poplar in Oxfordshire
Unfortunately, we have to remove a large and mature Poplar tree that has become severely compromised by Ganoderma (a fungal root and butt rot).
Why removal is necessary:
• Ganoderma causes hidden internal decay at the base and roots, making the tree structurally unstable.
• It significantly increases the risk of the tree failing in wind or storms, potentially causing serious damage to property, fences, or nearby structures.
• Once advanced (as in this case), there is no effective treatment — the fungus slowly destroys the wood from the inside.
This is a classic example of why regular tree inspections matter. Poplars are fast-growing but can be particularly susceptible to this type of decay.
What we’re doing:
• Safe, controlled dismantling of the entire tree (sectional felling where needed).
• All infected wood will be properly disposed of (not chipped on site for mulch).
If you have mature trees on your property (especially poplars, oaks, maples, or similar), keep an eye out for signs of Ganoderma:
• Shelf-like fungal brackets (conks) at the base of the trunk
• Thinning canopy, yellowing/wilting leaves, or dead branches
• Cracks or swelling near the root flare
Early detection can sometimes allow for management, but once the brackets appear, action is often required for safety.

This birch tree was removed due to significant internal decay caused by previous incorrect pruning cuts. Unfortunately, poor cutting techniques can create entry points for decay, which over time compromises the structural integrity of the tree.

In this case, multiple rotting pockets had developed, making the tree unsafe to retain.

All timber and waste were removed and the area left clean and tidy.

If you’re unsure about the condition of a tree or previous pruning work, feel free to get in touch for professional advice.
