⚡ Fault finding is where we really earn our keep ⚡

But once we got stuck into the fault finding, filming went straight out the window 😅 Social media isn’t exactly my strong suit.
We were recently called out to a local funeral directors after their garage lighting suddenly stopped working. Everything was fine when they left work, but when they returned the next day — nothing. No lights at all.
On arrival, we noticed there was no power at the switch, which usually suggests something has tripped. We checked all four distribution boards on site, but nothing was down. It looked like someone had already tried resetting things, yet there was still no power.
This is where proper fault finding comes in 🔍
Although everything looked fine on the surface, it quickly became clear this wasn’t a simple issue but a two-part fault.
After testing, we found the S/L leg was down. A closer inspection of the fittings revealed water corrosion on the connectors. Once repaired and tested, all readings came back clear — but we still had no feed from the DB.
With four DBs on site and poor labelling, we manually tripped the garage sockets to trace the correct board. From there, we identified a crimped 1.5mm cable inside the DB, which led us to a key switch below. Testing confirmed the switch was stuck closed, cutting the supply to the garage lighting entirely.
We temporarily bypassed the faulty key switch to restore power and will return to replace it properly.
The result?
A very happy client with their garage lighting back on — especially important with the early dark nights, making vehicle washing and maintenance far easier.
