A contemporary orangery designed to bring the outside in.

For this Shamley Green home, the aim was to create a new living space that feels connected to its surroundings while complementing the character of the existing property.

The orangery-style extension creates a light-filled kitchen and dining space, with carefully considered proportions, framed views and a strong connection to the garden.

The design balances traditional architectural details with a more contemporary way of living, creating a space that feels both timeless and practical for everyday family life.

Sometimes, the biggest transformations come from the smallest extensions.

This project involved just 3m² of additional floor area, yet the impact on how the family lives is significant.

Rather than focusing on adding more space, we rethought the layout entirely. By carefully reorganising the ground floor, we were able to create a generous kitchen island, a dedicated dining area, improved circulation and a much stronger connection between the different living spaces.

The result is a home that feels larger, calmer and better suited to everyday family life, without the need for a substantial extension.

It's a reminder that successful residential design isn't always about square metres. Often, it's about understanding how a family lives and making every part of the home work harder.

A home extension should do more than add space, it should change how the home feels to live in every day.

For this concept, the focus was on creating a calm, light-filled living space that feels connected to the garden throughout the day. The exposed timber structure helps frame views outward while bringing warmth and rhythm into the interior, balancing the clean minimal palette with a softer, more natural feel.

Rather than simply increasing square footage, the design explores how layout, light and proportion can completely transform the experience of a home.

Thoughtful design is often less about adding more, and more about making space work better.

Some homes don’t need more space.
They need better space and the right materials to bring it to life.

On this project, we used Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese charred timber, to create a bold, refined exterior that feels both contemporary and timeless.

But this wasn’t just an aesthetic choice.

The deep, textured finish adds durability, low maintenance, and a richness that changes subtly with the light throughout the day. It gives the home a quiet confidence, something that stands apart without needing to shout.

For our clients, who wanted a home that felt distinctive yet calm, it became the defining feature of the design.
