When the weather hits 38°C...

Most people are looking for the nearest fan.

We're looking for the nearest bit of shade and wondering if the paint is going to dry before we've finished the roller. 😅

Hot weather is lovely...
..until you're trying to decorate in it.

Paint dries faster.
Walls heat up.
You drink approximately 47 litres of water.
And suddenly every tea break feels completely justified.

The good news?

With the right products and a bit of planning, great results are still absolutely possible.

The weather might change...

Our standards don't.

🎨 Meet Jess 🎨

You know when someone says:

"That'll do...."

Jess is not that person 😅

If you've had work done by Lillypads, there's a good chance you've met Jess.

She's our lead decorator and one of the faces you're most likely to see on a project.

The sort of person who spots things other people miss.

The sort of person who won't leave until she's happy with the finish.

And the sort of person who somehow manages to get more done before lunch than most people do all day 👀

When she's not decorating, you'll usually find her adventuring with her dog, at the gym, swimming, listening to true crime podcasts or a bit of drum and bass.

One of our customers recently said:

⭐ "Jess has made a lovely job of the conservatory. Please can I have a quote for her to come back and do the inside? My husband was going to do it but lacks motivation and Jess did it so quickly."

Honestly?

We get it.

We're quite fond of her too ❤️

People see the wallpaper.

We see the cracks.

The gaps.

The repairs.

The lining.

The measuring.

The preparation.

This hallway needed a lot more than simply hanging wallpaper, but that's often the reality of decorating older properties.

The finished wallpaper gets all the compliments (and quite rightly too), but the preparation is what made it possible.

A lot of hours, a lot of patience and a lot of attention to detail later...

Every house has one 😅

The room that wasn't really part of the original plan.

The spare room that became storage.

The dining room that's now an office.

The box room that's somehow home to Christmas decorations, a treadmill and three bags of clothes you keep meaning to sort.

We decorate some absolutely beautiful spaces...

But we also see plenty of rooms that have evolved over time 👀

No judgement here.

In fact, we'd argue it's part of what makes a house a home.

Choosing a paint colour is easy...

Until someone says:

"What colour do you think?" 👀

Then suddenly we've got 37 screenshots, 12 paint samples, a Pinterest board and a family WhatsApp debate that could last until Christmas.

We've seen people choose colours in five minutes.

We've also seen people spend longer choosing a paint colour than choosing a car 😅

The funny thing is, there isn't really a right answer.

Some people love bold greens.

Some love soft pinks.

Some prefer calming blues.

Some want everything white.

And some discover there are approximately 4,762 shades of greige.

The best colour isn't the one that's trending.

It's the one that makes you smile every time you walk into the room.

People often ask me what my favourite thing about running Lillypad is.

Honestly?

The clients.

And the team.

Lillypad is my baby. It's been built with a lot of hard work, a lot of learning, a lot of tea, and more than a few paint-covered clothes along the way.

We've been lucky enough to work in some incredible homes and businesses over the years, and none of it would have been possible without the people who trust us to do what we do.

**Wallpaper is officially back on the menu 👀**

We've missed it, to be honest.

A bold floral feature wall, soft pink tones and a bedroom with a lot more personality than it had before.

This one belonged to Judith, who has now trusted us with her home three times.

(Which we're taking as a good sign 😏)

As Judith said:

Short answer?

Nope

Funny how a bit of sunshine suddenly makes you notice the outside of your house… 👀☀️

That front door.

Those windows.

That render you’ve managed to ignore all winter 😅

Bright weather has a funny way of pointing things out.

Exterior decorating isn’t just about making your home look fresher (although we’re big fans of that bit). It’s also about protecting surfaces, smartening things up and giving your house a bit of kerb appeal while the weather’s playing nice.

Fresh paint.
Sharp lines.
A proper tidy-up on the outside.

And yes… suddenly becoming 'that house' on the street 👀

What catches your eye first… front door, windows or render?

𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺.

Fresh walls.
Clean lines.
Lovely colour.
Everything looking calm and put together.

What they don’t see is…

Someone balanced in a bathroom trying to paint a ceiling with a roller the size of a small tree 🌳

A loft space designed for people approximately 4ft tall.

Dogs making themselves very comfortable on the dust sheets like they’ve contributed.

And at least one moment where someone says…

“Whose idea was this then?” 😵‍💫

Decorating always looks glamorous at the end.

The middle bit?
Slightly less glamorous.
Still worth it though 😏

Because behind every beautiful finish is a lot of prep, patience, protection… and occasionally some very questionable working positions.
