Wildlife pond renovation - This is a recently completed wildlife pond renovation carried out within a hillside garden in Somerset. The pond had initially been poorly constructed years previously with exposed liner and steep sides (unsuitable for safe access for many animals). The pond was also heavily overgrown and contained the non-native invasive plant, Pennywort (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides). Work carried out included the careful removal of all aquatic life into a temporary pond (all safely transferred back into pond on completion), removal and safe disposal of Pennywort and removal of old degraded pond liners.

The internal parts of the pond were reconstructed and reshaped to provide easier, safer access for pond visitors such as mammals and create habitats for aquatic life such as Dragonfly larvae, Diving beetles & Amphibians.

The new wildlife pond is now a more suitable habitat for wildlife containing native pond plants providing a safer access to its inhabitants aswell as a nicer safer pond for my clients.

“Tony has transformed our messy, difficult to maintain wildlife pond into an attractive feature, at the same time providing much better accommodation for the critters which he was very careful to rescue. He and Liam (‘Wild at heart’ gardening) are passionate about their work and are fonts of knowledge about pond ecology. An excellent job completed to a high standard, thank you!”

Another great project completed with my good friend Liam Willment Wild at Heart.

New Wildlife Pond - Mark C of E Primary School, Somerset.

This is my latest, recently completed wildlife pond project located within the picturesque grounds of Mark Primary school within the Somerset levels.

The pond will very quickly establish and become home to a wealth of aquatic animals including Frogs, Newts, Dragonfly’s and many more. Mammals, reptiles and birds will also visit the pond to drink, bathe and hunt. The pond will be a fantastic opportunity for the school children, staff and visitors to learn about nature first hand.

A big thanks to Ben Hole who excavated the pond with great precision, to Liam Willment for his assistance in construction and to Kerry D’Ovidio (teacher) who was instrumental in securing funding and driving this project forward.

New wildlife pond - Wedmore, Somerset.

Following months in the planning, I have finally completed my latest wildlife pond project. The pond measuring 5m by 4m is located in the quiet, picturesque village of Wedmore. It has been created to provide a haven for wildlife and a spot for local residents to visit and relax within peaceful surroundings. Planted with native species including Marsh Marigold, Bogbean, Purple loosestrife, White water-lily and many others will serve to attract an array of animals including Birds, Mammals, Amphibians, reptiles and a host of aquatic insects such as Dragonfly.

The pond was commissioned by Wedmore Parish Council with full support from Councillor, Lindsey Baker. A big thank you to Ben Hole who expertly crafted the exacavation and to Liam Willment Wild at Heart who provided assistance with construction.

Wildlife pond renovation - My client, Melanie’s original wildlife pond was overgrown, damaged and had limited animal and plant life due to poor water quality. I removed the old liners, made the pond deeper (beneficial for overwintering amphibians) and extended the perimeter. New liners added along with locally sourced stone and native plants. On the final day of completion, a frog was seen sitting on the pond edge giving her approval. This wildlife pond only measures 2M x 1.5M but will be a haven of activity in the coming months/years. Melanie is now looking forward to watching her pond develop and getting her grandchildren involved with some pond dipping and learning first hand about nature. 🐸🐝🦋🦎🪷🐧
