Tamsen Peake Gardens Creative garden design & maintenance A little bit about me...

I think it all started growing up in the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Tam x

Like many of us, so much of my childhood was spent climbing trees, riding horses and being in the great outdoors. I can remember vividly the plants I noticed when I was a child, often simple things like foxgloves and marigolds, woodland areas and huge majestic trees in country estates. As an adult I explored art and interior design, but my instinct for nature and landscapes stayed with me. It wasn

't until I bought my own house that I was really able to experiment with planting, shaping and colour in my own garden. I found that the process of being creative as a gardener came quite naturally to me, and I was able to quickly understand plant needs in order to help them flourish. This inspired me to set up my own garden design business five and a half years ago. My business has grown through word of mouth, I don't advertise and virtually all of my business comes from recommendations. I have a BA Hons degree in History of Art & English and have completed the RHS Level 2 Principles of Horticulture with the Royal Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. I provide a friendly, honest and reliable service including ongoing consultancy to keep your garden looking its best and answer any queries, however small they may be. If you'd like me to help you with your garden I'd love to hear from you..

Before and after - Paul’s front garden and wallflowers looking pretty epic for the end of April! Planted last summer, the drive was little more than a big boring square of tarmac. Paul wanted to bring some lushness to the front of the house and pop his own personality on it, including some bold planting. He’s been lovely to work with and full of ideas and boundless enthusiasm! We’re also working on the back garden, and I’m loving watching both of them evolve 🌺

Some before and afters from Julian and Sarah's garden. Planted in December last year, I missed the peak of it today with the lushness and height of summer over, but it was still looking gorgeous for late September. A great example of marrying up your planting scheme with the architecture of the building. A country cottage with some stylish modern adaptations .. so for the planting scheme I chose a blend of cottage charm with a modern classy twist 😄

Sarah’s garden doesn’t seem to realise summer’s coming to an end! Most of these plants were chosen for their longevity, and many will continue flowering until the frosts in November 🌺

Tropical vibes in Monique’s garden 😀 Designed and planted 4 years ago, it was essentially a blank canvas when I took it on with fencing and a lawn. It now has some height and is looking more jungly than ever!

I revisited Sarah's lovely garden today. I planted it in April this year and it's coming along very nicely! There were lots of butterflies and bees hovering about, and the garden felt like such a happy space. I've included Before and After shots and a few close ups of some of the flowers which were looking particularly lovely today - Veronica spicata 'Alba' which is a compact form of Veronica, Astilbe 'Deutschland' and Scabious perfecta 'Alba'

Back at Ruth’s today and her garden’s thriving🌷The winter weeding here has really paid off. I had to really scan the borders to find any weeds today! I used a gentle approach to gardening when I did the design, using mostly herbaceous perennials, and incorporating and allowing for wild flowers which are naturally occurring and which self seed. So there’s loads of ground cover to keep the bigger weeds like dandelions and dock at bay. Gardens don’t have to be hard work ❤️

Wow, the weather's a bit bonkers at the moment! I hope you've all been enjoying the sunshine! Feeling like I've got the best job in the world when it's like this, which makes up for some of the more gruelling days of winter. I popped back to Lou and Ash's garden today for some maintenance. The front border was planted in July 2023 and is really taking off this spring. In fact. I may have to bring it back into line by the time we reach autumn (note euphorbia on steroids!).

It was an unloved patch when I first visited. Ash and Lou were a bit embarrassed about how it made the front of the house look, especially when compared with their neighbours'. I loved that the border is on a bit of a slope, so there's plenty of opportunity for all plants to benefit from lots of sunlight, and it would lend itself to layering with larger, more statuesque shrubs and trees towards the back. There is a weeping silver birch we planted which will look incredible once established, plus a magnolia 'Susan', a ceanothus and a rugosa rose. With some more height, in time they'll hold their own at the back of the border. I also loved that the border is raised with brick edging which meant I could incorporate rockery style plants which spill over the edge, softening the hard landscaping. I had to factor in deep shade one end of the border and full sun the other. This required different planting either end which would still work in a unified way overall. The fence is still looking a bit exposed at the moment, but we've planted some clematis montana 'Ruebens' which will cloak it nicely over time. Enjoy the Before and After photos! I've included plants for all seasons, so it'll be worth a revisit later in the year when it'll probably look quite different

Ruth’s garden was looking lovely when I returned the other day. We only planted it 3 months ago so it’s early days but it’s such a ray of sunshine. She wanted a natural looking garden with lots of colour - no holds barred, and already had some striking Mediterranean style hard landscaping for me to work with. I was able to use the bank up to the garden as a feature creating an amphitheatre type effect and we extended the borders with big curves to imitate the curved rendered walls. The garden gets lots of natural light so was perfect for airy sun loving herbaceous perennials and grasses. I’ve included some before, during and after pics ☀️ ❤️
